Chapter Nine
He looked around when they were cruising past more street lights. He guessed they were only a few minutes away from their building and started to wake her.
She sat up and was looking around curiously as they pulled up to their building. “You live here?”
“Yes. Until we each find a home, we have condos on the top floors.”
“I’ve never been in a tall building before,” she said.
“I hope you love our place. It has a great view.”
“I’ll like anything.”
The back door opened, and Reid stood there ready to help.
“Scooch over to me,” Warrick said when he got out.
She nodded and moved over until he could reach her. He lifted her in his arms, and they headed toward the elevator.
He smiled when her head swiveled around, trying to see everything at once. “You’ll be able to check everything out later, baby.”
She nodded and laid her head on his shoulder.
The elevator doors opened, and he stepped into his condo. The other two followed him as he set her on the sofa.
“Where do you want this?” Reid asked as he held up her bags of clothes.
“Put everything on the bed, and we’ll sort it out later.”
“Do you want to lie down, baby?” Warrick asked.
“No. Can I sit up?”
“Yes. I don’t want you to tire. Okay?”
“Do you need us for anything?” Brett asked Warrick.
Warrick shook his head. “No.”
“When will I see you again?” she asked them.
Reid smiled. “I think you’ll probably be seeing a lot of us, honey.”
She nodded. “Okay.”
After the guys left, she looked a little lost, so he walked over to her and set his hand on her head. “They’ll be around, baby. If you need one of them for anything, I’ll call them.”
“I’m with you, so I don’t think I’ll ever need anything. It’s just that I’ll miss them.”
He gritted his teeth against the emotions that filled him because of her innocent look and trust in him. “That’s right. You won’t. I’ll take very good care of you.”
She smiled.
“Are you hungry?”
She shook her head. “No, not really.”
“How about a shower, and then you can get into your pajamas. We’ll watch a movie before bed.” He held out his hand. “Come on.”
