Chapter Twenty-Two
Sean set her down but didn’t let her go. “How was your day, baby?”
She grinned up at him. “Good. How about yours?”
“Productive. I helped these guys find a building.”
“I can’t wait to see it,” Mack said.
“You’ll love it, and it’s only a few blocks away,” Jace said.
Mack growled. “How about we discuss this over pizza?”
Sean and Jace grinned at each other. It never failed. When Mack was hungry, he turned into a bear.
“I’m going to order a large with everything for you guys, and I’ll get an eight-inch … veggie,” she whispered, making Sean laugh.
“For one thing, baby, you can order whatever you want. Another thing is the large pizza is just for Mack, and he won’t share.”
Her eyes widened. “Like he’ll eat the whole thing?”
“Hell, yeah,” Jace said.
“Hey, I’m a growing boy.”
Sean snorted and rolled his eyes.
“What should I get for you guys?”
“Let’s make it three larges with everything and your eight-inch veggie. How does that sound?”
“Holy cow, will you eat all of yours?”
“Maybe. If I don’t, I’ll eat it for breakfast.”

“Yuk,” she said and wrinkled her nose.
“Hey, don’t knock it until you try it,” Jace said.
Ava shook her head. “I’d rather not.”
She caught the look Mack gave Sean. “What’s that about?”
“Why don’t you call in the pizza and then read until it gets here? The guy and I are going into the office. Is that okay?”
She shrugged and pulled away from him. “Sure.”
He tapped the tip of her nose. “We won’t be long, baby.”
She nodded and watched them walk away. Jace stopped at the refrigerator and grabbed three beers before he followed them into the office and shut the door.
“What in the world?” She shook her head and sat on the sofa to make the call for pizza.
She relaxed back and picked up her book, then started to read.
She was so engrossed in the story that she was startled when the doorman rang. She ran to the intercom.
