“Good, I’m glad. Until we find the person that did this, I feel better knowing she’s not alone.”
“She won’t be.”
He shook the guy’s hand and watched him walk away before turning his attention to the sweet woman in his lap. “How are you doing, baby?”
She exhaled. “I think okay. It’s just surreal right now.”
“I know. I hope you know I’ll protect you. I don’t want you to be scared.”
She looked up at him. “You can’t be with me twenty-four seven.”
“If I can’t, I’ll have someone else be with you.”
“But I’m not your responsibility, Sean.”
He cupped her face. “I very much want you to be. Will you let me take care of you?”
She studied his face for a moment before she nodded slowly.
“That means giving me your trust and your obedience.” He bit back a smile when she scowled when he talked about obedience.
“I’m not going to be your child.”
He smiled. “No, but you are going to be my little.”
Her eyes widened. She had always secretly dreamed of having a relationship like that after meeting the girls in town but didn’t think it would happen for her.
He cupped her cheek. “I’ll take such good care of you, baby. My job is to keep you safe and happy, and I’ll do whatever I have to make it happen.”
“Why are you doing this? You hardly know me.”
He chuckled. “Oh, I know you better than you think I do. I knew from the beginning when I first laid my eyes on you that you were mine. Don’t ask me how or why because I don’t know. I’ve heard this same story from several of my friends. They just knew from the beginning which woman was for them.”
He studied her. “Can you admit you feel something, too?”
She bit her lip and nodded. “Yes.”
He pressed a kiss to her forehead. “Good girl. Thank you for telling me the truth.”
“What happens now?” she asked.
“We go to your place and pack some things, and then we’ll go to my condo. We can relax there or go out and do something. I’ll leave that up to you.”
“Okay.”
“Good, let’s go.”
