She nodded.
“Good girl. Drive safe.”
He followed close behind her and grinned when she kept looking in her rearview mirror at him.
He pulled in behind her and got out. When she opened her mouth, he held up his hand. “I’m just going to check the house, and then I’ll leave. I know you’re not ready to go deeper.” The last thing he wanted to do was make her run. He’d already pushed her earlier in the evening.
She relaxed and smiled.
“Let’s go.” He took her hand and led her up to the house. He watched as she unlocked the door. She punched in some numbers to her security system.
“Honey, from now on, don’t let anyone see the code for the box.”
“Oh, I didn’t even think about it with you. If it had been someone else, I would have blocked it.”
Her trust was like an aphrodisiac. “Good. Stay here while I check out the house.”
He walked through every room, looking under the bed and in the closets. It didn’t take long because the place was tiny. He walked back to her and pulled her into his arms. “Give me a goodnight kiss.”
She stood on her tiptoes and pressed her mouth to his. He moaned and quickly took control, and the kiss rapidly got hot and heavy.
“Baby, if we don’t stop now, it’s going to be impossible for me to leave you.”
She sighed and stepped back.
He turned at the door. “Are we still on for tomorrow?”
“Yes, thank you for reminding me. It will have to be later. I’ll have to work in the morning.”
“I thought you didn’t work?”
Ava shook her head. “It’s not my weekend, but Phyllis needed it off for something.”
“Oh, she’ll let you take one of her days but won’t trade if you needed it off.”
“It doesn’t matter. It’s just until noon,” she said.
“Fine. I’ll pick you up there.”
“Can’t I bring my car home so I don’t have to worry about it later?”
“Sure. I’ll be here.”
She smiled. “Goodnight.”
“Goodnight, baby. Call if you need anything.”
“I will.”
In his car on the way home, he couldn’t get the grin off his face and didn’t want to stop the anticipation of seeing her again. The only thing that bothered him was the fact he wanted her in his home where he could protect her because he still sometimes got the itchy feeling on the back of his neck.
He’d never seen anyone suspicious, but people could be easily hidden.
He’d just protect her to the best of his ability and get some of their guys to watch over her while he couldn’t be with her.
The thought of having a guard put on her made him relax a bit. Sean didn’t care how late it was. He needed to make it happen immediately, or he’d never be able to go to sleep.
It was all set up by the time he drove into the underground parking in his building.
As he made his way into his condo and then his bedroom, he shed his clothes and jumped into the shower. After brushing his teeth, he lay in bed.
He felt himself relax into the mattress and sighed.
The only thing that would make him happier was if she were lying beside him. Only then would he get a good night’s sleep.
