Chapter Seventeen
Jenna was opening up Trey’s mail in his office when the phone rang.
Trey answered it. “Oh, damn. I’m so glad. Thanks for calling. Yes, I’ll tell her.”
She dropped the letters and looked at him expectedly.
“Duncan found her, baby, and they’re headed home.”
Tears filled her eyes, and she pressed her fingers against her lips. It had been close to two weeks since Kyla had left, and every day was more agonizing than the last. She couldn’t understand why it took so long until Trey told her that Kyla was getting paid cash and trying to hide. He explained that Duncan would find her, but it would take time.
“Come here, pet.”
She raced around the desk and let him pull her into his lap and hold her as she cried. It still amazed her sometimes how much control and how much of herself she’d given to this man. The fact she was letting anyone see her cry would have been inconceivable four weeks ago.
He pressed his lips against her head. “I told you he’d find her.”
She sniffed. “I know, it just was taking so long.”
“I know, pet.” He hugged her tightly against his chest.
There was a knock on the door.
“Come in.”
Gavin walked in and immediately looked concerned. “What the hell happened?”
Trey smiled. “It’s good news. Duncan just called. He found Kyla and is bringing her home.”
Gavin smiled. “That’s good news. We were all worried about her.”
Trey nodded.
“I’ve got those files you wanted,” Gavin said as he walked around the desk and set them in front of Trey.
She felt Gavin stroke her hair. “Hey, I’m glad she’s finally coming home,” he said.
She wiped her tears away and nodded. “I am, too.”
Gavin patted her shoulder. “I’ll get back to work.”
She heard the door close behind him and relaxed against his chest.
“Why don’t you rest for a while, baby. You haven’t been sleeping well because of Kyla.”
“I will for a bit. But I know you have work to do.”
He tightened his grip on her. “You’re more important, so if you ever need me, I’ll be there.”
She had no idea how long she slept when the phone woke her up. Trey reached for it and answered as he held on to her tightly to keep her from getting up.
“Black,” Trey said into the phone.
Trey and another person talked for a while before he put down the phone and went to hold her again.
“You know you don’t have to do this.”
“I know.” He pressed a kiss to her forehead. “But I want to. We’ll go home here in a bit. I need you to hold me as much as I need to hold you.”
