Rylan almost snorted. “Really, what did you have?”
“Oh, well…”
“How about you try to eat a little of what Carolyn is getting us. It will hurt her feelings if you don’t.”
Faith’s eyes widened. “Oh, I don’t want to do that. She’s been so nice to me.”
He smiled and nodded. “Good. Now, come over here and sit and tell me how it’s going so far.”
She smiled. “I like it. Bucky is very nice, and he says I’m doing a great job.”
“I’m glad. I think I’m going to need you other places as well.” He loved how excited she got when he told her he needed her. Everything about her was perfect so far, except the lying, and he understood why she was doing that. But it would stop after they got to know each other better.
“Really?”
“Yes, I think you’re going to be an asset to my business.”
“I’ll try my best, sir.”
“Call me Rylan. Okay?”
“Oh, all right.”
There was a knock at his door. “Come in.”
Carolyn came in with a large sack and drink carrier.
“Here, you go, you two.”
Faith looked up at her. “You’re not going to eat with us?”
“No, not this time.”
“I’ll share whatever I have with you,” Faith told her.
Rylan watched the smile bloom on Carolyn’s face. Damn, Faith was so fucking sweet.
“Thank you, dear. But I’m going out with a friend.”
“Oh, okay.”
“I’ll be back in an hour,” Carolyn said and walked out.
