I gape up at him. I don’t know what’s gotten into him and for a second I wonder if that penny really worked. It certainly seems like it!
“Dinner? You mean like… a date?” I ask hesitantly, still afraid to get my hopes up.
Denver leans in, bringing his lips to my ear and I shiver.
“Exactly like a date.” He whispers.
“O-okay” I stutter.
“I’ll pick you up tonight. 6 pm.” He says as he holds my car door open for me.
I nod at him, still dazed as I slip behind the wheel. Denver waits while I buckle up before he bends down inside the car. He kisses my cheek before his lips find my ear once again.
“See you tonight, Em.” He says before he closes the door and taps on the window twice.
I watch him turn and walk away, back to his car. I wait until he’s out of sight before I let out the squeal that I’ve been holding in for the last hour. Now, I just need to go home and figure out what I’m going to wear tonight.
