CHAPTEREIGHT

There was something about Hallie that Rev couldn’t quite put his finger on. She was sexy as hell, but she didn’t seem to know it. Her dark red hair and emerald eyes captivated him when they were talking. He couldn’t take his eyes off her. Then there were the freckles and dimples. He was a sucker for both, or maybe he had instantly become a fan when he saw how her face lit up during their conversation.

Either way, he wanted to take her into his arms and find out if she tasted as good as she looked. If she tasted half as good as he thought she would, he was seriously fucked.

“Did you get enough for dinner?” he asked.

“Oh, God. I’m stuffed. Thank you. It was so good. I honestly can’t remember the last time I had a home-cooked meal. That’s sad, right?”

“Not at all. I’m used to cooking for one, but some people aren’t a fan of it.”

“I’m not a fan of cooking, whether it’s for one or ten. I guess I never learned the subtle art of it.”

He loved the slight blush that covered her face when she confessed to not knowing her way around a kitchen.

“So, we’re pretty much stuck here. We might as well make the best of it. I have a game room we can hang out in, or we can watch a movie if you would prefer that instead.”

“I am sorry for crashing your Saturday night plans. I feel horrible about all of this.”

“It’s no problem at all.” Rev stood and began clearing the table.

“You’re so nice. Almost too nice. And I’m fine with checking out your game room. It could be a fun way to kill a few hours.”

“Absolutely! Let me clean this mess up really quick, and we’ll head there.” What Rev really wanted to say was that he had quite a few other ideas when it came to how they could kill a few hours.

“I can help. I don’t mind.”

“Great.” Rev gladly accepted Hallie’s offer to help clean up the dinner dishes. Though she didn’t know where everything went, she helped where she could, making the task a breeze.

When they were done, Rev grabbed a beer from the fridge and asked Hallie if she would like one as well.

“Sure. It’s not like I’ll be driving anywhere tonight.”

* * *

Hormones surgedthrough Hallie’s body, sending heat straight to the juncture between her thighs. She had never felt such a visceral reaction to any man in her life. Yet, with Rev, there was an immediate awareness every damn time he got even remotely close to her. If he happened to brush up against her, it was like every nerve ending in her body sprang to life at the exact same moment. Her skin felt like it was stretched too tightly around her frame.

She was having a hard time concentrating on the game of pool they were playing. It was Rev’s shot. He was bent over the table with the cue stick in his hand, readying his shot. She stood on the other side of the table and found herself completely captivated by every move he made, by the way his muscles flexed as he stretched out to make his shot. She imagined his body, his muscles flexing over her, and how amazing it would feel.

Jesus! What is wrong with me?Hallie shook her head, trying to dispel the wicked thoughts running through her mind. But no matter how hard she tried not to think about what sex with Rev would be like, it was useless. For every thought she pushed away, ten more sprang up in their place.

“Hey, are you okay?” Rev asked.

“Yeah. Sorry. I … uh. Is it hot in here, or is it just me?” she asked, trying to hide the fact that she had basically spent the last five minutes eye fucking him.

“Honesty, you’re hot as fuck. I just don’t know if you’re ready to have that conversation.”

“Wait! What?” she asked, stunned that he said what he had.

“You heard me. I know those cute little ears of yours work just fine. I also see the way you’re eyeing me up like I’d be the perfect dessert.”

Hallie’s jaw hit the ground. She quickly snapped it shut, unsure how the hell she was supposed to respond to that sudden come on. She wasn’t offended by his bold or vulgar statement, but she was surprised.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have been looking at you like that,” she said, feeling the need to apologize for her brazen behavior.

“Don’t be. I like it. You’re a beautiful woman, and we’re both adults. Just for the record, I happen to like the way you were eyeing me up. To me, it looked like you wanted to toss me up on the pool table and have your way with me. I’d totally be down for that.” He set the pool cue down and crossed the table, closing in on her with each step he took.

He was right. Everything he said about her wanting to toss him on the table and have her way with him. She’d never had such a strong physical reaction to a man. Was it something she wanted to act on? Was it something she wanted to be honest about? Or did she want to go to bed, only to lie awake thinking about what could have been all damn night?
