Just thinking about Asa leaving has a weird, unpleasant feeling forming in my chest.

Our food is brought out by Katie, and luckily for her, she works at keeping her eyes off Asa. Asa may not have anything to fear from me, but I’ll cut a bitch who pays more than courteous attention to him. Why in hell Katie thought it would be okay when she took our orders makes her a stupid girl.

The rest of our dinner is spent talking about both of our lives. Most of what Asa tells me are personal things about himself I didn’t already know. I eat up everything he says. It gives me the chance to get to know him on a personal level, but I also like hearing him talk. His voice is deep and smooth and does some serious things to my body. I’ve wiggled in my seat a few too many times, and I worry I may leave a wet spot behind.

When I talk about my family and myself, Asa seems genuinely interested, listening with rapt attention.

We both order dessert, but unfortunately, before we can dig in, Asa gets a phone call. He stays at the table while he takes it, and a moment later, he hangs up.

“As much as I hate to say it, I have to cut the evening short,” he says, his voice full of frustration, indicating he does, in fact, hate it. “Apparently, there’s something going on back home with the record label. They want an immediate conference call between all of us.”

I barely contain my pout. I wasn’t finished with my time with Asa, but I guess when duty calls, you can’t ignore it.

“No worries. I understand.”

I understand, but I don’t have to like it.

He grabs my hand and pulls me up from the table. Once I’m standing in front of him, he lifts the back of my hand to his mouth, laying a soft kiss against it.

“Have dinner with me tomorrow, and I’ll make it up to you.” From the look in his eyes, his way of making it up to me will be very pleasurable.

I’m definitely okay with this.

“Deal.”

He drops some money on the table, more than enough to cover the bill, then leads me outside and over to my car. Right there on the street for everyone who’s passing by to see, he presses me back against my car and lays one hell of kiss on me. I’m panting and needy by the time he pulls back.

“That wasn’t nice,” I complain, licking away his flavor on my lips.

With a chuckle, he lays another short kiss on my lips. “I thought it was really fucking nice.”

I dig my nails into his pecs, wishing I could hold onto him and never let him go. “The kiss was phenomenal, but the state you’re leaving me in is not.”

He cups the side of my face. “Tomorrow night, baby.” His thumb swipes across my bottom lip.

“Guess that means I’ll be taking care of myself tonight then,” I tease.

Asa groans, briefly closing his eyes and dropping his forehead against mine. His expression looks pained. “Only if you think of me while you’re doing it.”

“Nah. I believe I’ll think about my old high school boyfriend, Eric.”

His eyes flash open and they meet my laughing ones. His aren’t laughing. In fact, they look pretty irritated at the moment. “Don’t make me hunt this guy down and shove my fist down his throat.”

“I believe you’re even hotter when you’re jealous than when you’re wearing leather pants.”

Shaking his head, he gives me another peck on the lips.

“Nutty,” he mutters. “Hand me your phone.”

I pull it from my purse and give it to him. After programming in his number, his phone dings.

“Send me a text with your address. I’ll be there to pick you up at six.”

“Roger that.”

I watch him as he walks across the street to his own vehicle and climbs inside. Our eyes meet for a brief moment before he’s pulling away from the curb.

I can’t keep the huge ass grin off my face as I open my car and get behind the wheel.
