“And you’re okay with this?” Angela asked her.
“I’m right where I want to be, where I’ve always wanted to be.”
“Good, I’d hate to have to kick big brother’s butt again,” Tyler joked. “Though I did a might better than yours did.”
“Ty,” Angela warned.
“It’s okay,” Dani said, giving them a smile. “I’ve forgiven Dean.”
“You have?” Tyler asked.
“He was doing exactly what I was, protecting his family and I can’t be mad at him for it. I never lied to him before so I can’t blame him for believing me and in the end, it all worked out. It’s not his fault Felix took the girls and if he hadn’t come, I would never have realized that he was after that microchip. Our girls are home—they’re happy, healthy, what else could I want?”
“To meet your niece and nephew?” Dean asked coming around the corner towards them with Kara in his arms.
“Dean,” she said in surprise as Mona came up behind him with the baby.
“Dani, I’m so sorry for everything,” Mona said as they met in the middle.
“We’re all here…safe…loved,” Dani told her as Luke stood up behind her. “He’s handsome,” she added glancing down at Daniel.
“Takes after his aunt,” Dean joked as Kara leaned over to kiss her. “Sorry, she likes to kiss your picture at bed.”
“It’s okay,” she stated hugging the little girl, fluffing her curls, the same color as her own hair.
“There’s no doubt you two are related,” Angela said giving them a smile. “You don’t mind we brought them with us, do you?”
“Nothing could be better,” she replied as Mona took Kara.
“Come here Dan-Dan,” Dean said pulling her into a hug that engulfed her. “I hope you don’t mind but we sold the place in Auckland.”
“You’re staying?” she asked looking between them.
“I was going to do anything to earn your forgiveness, Dani; you’re my other half remember?”
“I do and I think I can handle having you around.”
“Hopefully pretty close, see we’re sort of broke.”
“Broke?” she asked lifting an eyebrow at him.
“Paying back eight mil’s not easy,” Dean stated, looking between her and Luke.
“We’ll work something out,” Luke replied. “You’re supposed to be pretty good with numbers, aren’t you?”
“About as good as Dani is with computers.”
“Then you’re hired. I have to make sure no one else tries to embezzle millions from me and who better to do it than the only person to manage it?” Luke said. “Besides Dani will kick your butt if you step out of line, right?”
“Absolutely,” she agreed before rising onto her tiptoes to whisper something into his ear.
“Now that could work,” Luke said kissing her nose. He dug into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He slid one off the ring and held it up for him to see. “Dani and I don’t like people underfoot, but we do have an empty house. You manage the upkeep and it’s yours.”
“What?” Dean asked catching the key.
“You brought Dani to me and she’s worth more than the house, the eight mil, and the company all rolled up together,” Luke said holding her against him. “Add in the girls and I owe you.”
“Luke,” Dani laughed turning into his arms. “So, I’m worth more than eight million and the company combined huh?”
“Way more,” he agreed. “Don’t you know you’re priceless Dani my love?”
“I do now,” she said kissing him as the sun began to set, enveloping them in a glow that didn’t compare to the one in her eyes as she looked down at the girls watching them with smiles.
“Ready to head home?” Luke asked lifting her chin to bring her gaze back to him.
“I am home, right here in your arms with our girls, it’s the only home I need.”
“And it’ll never go away baby,” he promised, and she knew he’d never break it. She was ready for the future, because all she saw in it was happiness, something she feared until now.
