“Like hell I will,” he stated glaring at the man. “You have two seconds to get out of my sight before I toss you out of this company onto your ass. I’ve told you plenty of times before to stop speaking about my wife and if I ever hear you, see you or think you’re thinking of her that way I will take you apart piece by piece.”
“Luke!” Dani huffed trying to still his clenched fists. “Please stop.”
Dani could tell he was wavering between wanting to slug Cooper for his comment and the true meaning behind it and keeping her from watching yet another fight. He wrapped his arm around her waist, putting himself between her and the group before leading her from the office. He started towards the elevator before remembering she hated the thing and turned towards the stairs instead.
“I’m sorry Dani.”
“I know, baby.” She sighed leaning into him. “I hate how easily you lose your temper when it comes to other men and me.”
“So do I, but you’re my wife Dani and I don’t like other men leering after you.”
“You can make sure they don’t without resorting to violence Luke,” she stated stopping on the bottom step.
“How’s that,” he inquired as he turned around to look at her.
“By proving just how useless their desires are,” she said with a smile sliding her hands around his neck. “They’ll stop thinking they have a shot if they know there’s only one man I want.”
“You mean like this?” Luke pulled her tightly to him lowering his lips to hers to leave no doubt that they were headed home for one thing.
“You might think about finding a new job there, buddy,” Blake laughed smacking Cooper on the back. “Cause there’s no way Luke will ever let you slide for that comment.”
“You can’t blame me for wanting them to split, every article that comes out proves just how many there are out there praying for the same thing,” Cooper countered.
“You all are missing one giant thing though,” Lori said from the doorway to the office suite. “Dani doesn’t want any of you; she only has eyes for one man and that man is your boss. If you’d like him to remain your boss and not the guy who beat the hell out of you for lusting after his wife, then I’d suggest you all head back to work.”
Lori shooed them away and smiled back at Dani when she looked their way as they left the building with a little wave. The woman was lucky…though she didn’t know just how lucky until today. Brains and beauty all rolled up into one with a husband crazy about her. Lucky, lucky girl…
Dani grinned settling into Luke’s side as they walked down the sidewalk towards the waiting car. Brad hopped out seeing them and quickly opened the back door, shielding them from the eyes of the reporters standing guard.
“Where to boss?” John inquired as they settled into their seats.
“I don’t know, what do you say Dani? Home?” he asked giving her another kiss.
“Nope, the hanger, I want to go to the beach house, spend all weekend on the warm sand with you beside me.” Dani gave him a grin before whispering into his ear, “Inside me…”
“Mmm, I like the way you think. To the hanger John, Brad can you make sure we’ll be free to take off?” he added before closing the glass. “The beach huh?”
“Mhmm, my tan’s starting to wear off from spending so much time inside this dreary city.”
“You could always use a tanning salon.”
“I want a light glow, not a fried one,” she teased loosening his tie as she slid onto his lap. “Plus, I don’t like laying around naked somewhere hundreds of others have, and you know how much I hate tan lines.”
“You’re incredible Dani, on one hand you’re reserved when it comes to our sex life but then you flip a switch and become my little tigress. How can you possibly blush after everything we’ve done but yet lay outside completely naked and be fine?”
“Because I only do it when I know no one else is around, only you Luke. You’re the only one who gets to enjoy me, my body.”
“I don’t know how your ex let you go,” he stated running his hands down her sides.
“Luke don’t say that.” Dani sighed turning away.
“I meant your lover not Chance…wait, Dani,” he said guiding her chin back around towards him. “That wasn’t true, was it? There wasn’t an older lover was there?”
“No,” she admitted glancing away.
“Ah Dani.” Luke sighed feeling the tension leave his body at that knowledge. “Chance never…”
“No, he didn’t get that chance,” she said before laughing at the wording.
