“I will, now if you all wouldn’t mind, I’d like to get my wife home so I can take care of her.”
“Shouldn’t I be the one taking care of you?” she said with a grin. “After all I had a wonderful nap this afternoon.”
“Mmm…then by all means care away,” he stated kissing her.
Dani left a smile on her face throughout the rest of the evening while their folks insisted on staying to help and it grew once they’d left, and he pulled her into his arms.
“Your head,” she warned.
“Is fine, other parts of me need some TLC from you though,” he replied sliding his hands underneath her top.
“It does seem that there’s a very hard protrusion jutting out from your hips,” she agreed. “Maybe a nice massage would relax it.”
“If that’s what the doctor orders.”
“I’m sure the doctor ordered rest, but your wife knows the only way to make you rest is to wear you out, and the perfect way to do that is with this.” She sighed happily sinking down onto him.
“Dani…” Luke groaned as he covered her mouth and kissed her until they were both spinning out of control.
She slept in his arms again and was surprised to find that he’d called in to take the day off.
“I can cancel my appointment or reschedule it,” she offered, as she got ready to go that afternoon.
“No, I’ll be fine. Take care of yourself Dani.”
Dani nodded giving him a kiss before she left. She always used the back entrance to avoid the possibility of someone seeing her and she quickly made her way up to the waiting area two minutes before her appointment as usual. Now more than ever, she didn’t want anyone finding out she was here. They’d ask too many questions, and she didn’t have the answers for them.
“Dani, come on in,” Dr. Wilson said meeting her in the doorway. “I wasn’t sure if you’d manage to make it today after your busy weekend.”
“Is that the polite way of saying my completely and utterly messed up possibly clinically insane weekend?” she asked with a smile as she sat down on the couch.
“Humor…I’m glad to see that. Would you like to tell me how you’ve been coping with everything that’s come out lately? I know you cancelled your appointment after the papers found out about the miscarriage.”
“I was a mess and then finding out that Ty had something to do with it…Luke was furious.”
“Which scared you or led him to hurt you?” Bridget asked noting the shadow of the bruise underneath her makeup.
“Yes, Luke hit me, but it was a complete accident. I was trying to get them to stop but they wouldn’t listen, and I stepped in between them when I shouldn’t have. Luke felt horrible and was amazing to me the entire night…week…weekend too.”
“So, you two are back to being happier together?”
“Luke’s been great. I honestly don’t know how I would have managed without him the past week. I know when I first came back to see you, I was a mess, everything just seemed to be falling apart but now…”
“It’s better?” Bridget inquired.
“Yeah, we still argue but we’ve always done that. I guess opening up to him while we were away on my birthday helped me to start moving on. He’s softer now that he knows about my claustrophobia.”
“You’d never told him?”
“I didn’t want him to think I was weak. I hate people knowing because subconsciously I guess I’ll always worry that they’ll use it against me but that’s not Luke’s style. If he’s mad or doesn’t agree with something he’ll yell at you about it.”
“How does that make you feel, does it scare you after everything that happened with Chance and the fact that you don’t know how it ended?”
“Occasionally yeah…like everyone else I get scared, but Luke has never laid a hand on me.”
“Sometimes Luke scares you though? Dani, I know you’ve probably been asked this a hundred different times in the last few days, especially with everything that happened yesterday but in here you are completely safe. Nothing you tell me will leave these walls, has Luke ever scared you where you’re afraid for your safety?”
“Once but he would never…”
