Chapter 5
Dani rechecked her makeup making sure the traces of the bruise were hidden. She eased back from the dressing table and looked through her jewelry box for the perfect additions to the outfit.
“Why don’t you try this?” Luke said coming in behind her. He slid a box in front of her and she smiled lightly at him in the mirror.
“Just open it,” he said when she hesitated.
She lifted the lid and lowered her lashes in surprise. “It’s stunning Luke.”
“Then it should at least partially measure up to your beauty. That dress is outstanding, and this should put it over the top.”
“It’s perfect I agree. Can you help with the clasp?” she asked and when he’d stepped back, she knew it was.
Dani honestly didn’t want to go to the party tonight but if they didn’t it would only make this mess worse. If she’d thought the week after the miscarriage was bad, this was proof that there was such a thing as a living hell. She’d barely ventured outside since the report came out on Monday because each time she so much as opened the front door there was a parade of reporters taking pictures and shoving recorders in front of her face. They all wanted the story and all she wanted to do was forget it.
“Are you ready for tonight?” Luke asked gently guiding her up from the seat. “If it weren’t our anniversary, I’d say we could just skip it.”
“I know Luke and I’ll be fine. The car’s in the garage so it’s not like we have to walk past them out there and even if there are some at the gate when we get to your parents’ place, they won’t be allowed in. Most of the people coming don’t think that you had anything to do with it or that you’re the abusive husband they’re calling you. Honestly in all of this, I’m the one getting off lightly.”
“You amaze me that you can say that Dani, but I can handle the accusations as long as you don’t pull away again,” he said pulling her into his arms and kissing her.
“If you don’t stop that we won’t make it to the party and then there’ll really be comments.” She sighed as his hands caressed her side through the open back of her dress. She felt them slide higher and higher until they were grazing the sides of her breasts and she couldn’t stop the light whimper that slipped past her lips.
“No one will care if we show up late,” he stated as his fingers found a pebbled nipple. “In fact, it’ll probably help to put aside most of those rumors.”
“Luke…” Dani moaned as his fingers left her breasts and went to the zipper of her dress. “Please.”
“Please what Dani?”
“Wait, let’s go to this party and make nice then we’ll come home and do this because if we start now, we’ll never get there,” she stated knowing it was the truth.
“I suppose you’re right,” he said with a smile as he kissed her again. “Very well my dear, your subjects await.”
Dani smiled as they made their way down to the car and once inside, she didn’t protest when he pulled her onto his lap and kissed her again. She knew it was going to happen, but she didn’t care and when his fingers sought her core she gave in, and her hands strayed to his waist.
“Dani…”
“Now Luke, I need you now,” she whispered against his lips, and he groaned lifting her skirt, easing into her as he pushed her thong aside. She moaned into his mouth, and he wanted to send her over the edge a million different ways.
His thickness was enveloped by her warm heat, setting his teeth on edge already desperate to come. It only grew deeper when her hips moved, sending him deeper into her, their mouth fused together tightly. He rubbed her clit as she gently rode him, his other hand grasping her hip tightly, wanting more, needing more.
Her movements quickened and he thrusted up in rhythm with her, swallowing her moan as her pussy gripped him tighter. Another strum on her clit, send it wild, grasping him in waves so strong, urging him to let go that he couldn’t hold back another moment.
They’d barely rearranged their clothing before the door opened and Brad shot them an amused smirk. Dani felt her face flame and she buried her head against Luke’s chest as he laughed.
“Remind me to give the man a raise,” he said as he held her tightly against him.
“It’s not funny Luke,” she said with a slight laugh as they headed to the door. “It’s not.”
“We thought you were going to spend all night in the car,” Wren stated as they walked through, and she knew her face was flushing again.
“There’s the sparkle that’s been missing,” Joan said hugging her as she blocked them from the view of the rest of the party. “Luke you might want to adjust your clothing unless you want Dani to be blushing all evening.”
Dani glanced over and saw the tail of his shirt poking through his zipper. She had to turn away as her face flamed yet again.
“Dani was insistent that we not be late, well too late, and I simply couldn’t resist her. I never can,” he said as he quickly redressed.
“I’m glad to see that this week hasn’t affected the two of you too much,” Wren said hugging her before they stepped aside to usher them into the party.
