They pull me between them and we walk out of Club Sin together. There are not many people around this early in the morning. The sun has barely had a chance to kiss the horizon when the doors close behind us. There’s a chill in the misty morning air and I tuck a little closer to Lev who puts his suit jacket around my shoulders. Chicago in the early morning hours is beautiful. Calm right before the chaos hits. Just like my life.
It doesn’t take long for us to weave through the streets to my apartment. Interesting that they know where I live, but at the same time not really.
Lev helps me out of the car and Gregor steps out with us. I glance around them to make sure there’s no one watching.
“Three weeks and then you are ours.” Lev brushes roughened knuckles across my cheek.
Elyah steps out of the car and stands on the sidewalk with us. “You have three weeks to tell your cousin. Be ready. When we come to take you expect staring wolves in place of men.”
Gregor takes my mouth in a slow, unhurried kiss that has my insides rekindling.
“We will be taking what is ours,” he says when he breaks away.
There’s that possessive tone again. I don't want to read too much into it but it’s kind of impossible not to. After the night we had I want to think they are in this with me, not just using me. But how can I be certain? I guess only time will tell.
“Like I am a piece of meat to savor a couple of times before you toss me in the trash?” I quip, wanting to press buttons. Maybe if I press hard enough, they'll take me upstairs and we can continue last night’s activities long into the morning.
Gregor’s eyes drop to my stomach where I am unaware my hand has moved to cover. His gaze says you know I’m right. But my scowl retorts I belong to no one.
A phone is pressed into my hands. “What’s this? I already have a phone.
“This is a line direct to us. You have trouble, want to talk, want to cut the three weeks to three days…anything you call us.”
“Oh.”
Elyah tips my chin up until our gazes connect. “And if it rings, you answer.”
I swallow. “And if I don’t?”
He smirks with little humor. “Try it and see.”
