‘No. But it’s the only thing I have.’

He ate some more beefpho. Noisily sucked up a noodle.

‘What evidence are you most worried about?’ Flynn asked.

‘The snow. I can explain the firearms discharge residue, although it’ll sound like a trick, but I can’t explain the snow.’

‘Maybe the killer was hiding in the house?’

‘It was searched top to bottom. And, as they were looking forthe murder weapon, it was done properly. The killer wasn’t in the house.’

‘But according to the fresh snow, the killer didn’tleavethe house either?’

‘You can see why I’m worried,’ he said. ‘And I know we’re full-on right now, but is there any chance I can get back up there? I need to start knocking on doors. Speak to witnesses. Cops up there think they have her cold, so aren’t looking for anyone else.’

‘I’ll clear some time for you.’

‘Cheers. Because if I can …’ He trailed off.

Flynn looked up from her fish. ‘What’s up?’ she said.

‘Show me that photograph of Henning Stahl again.’

‘Why?’

‘Because I think he’s just walked past the restaurant window.’
