The words hit me like knives, but she wasn't done.

"You brought her here hoping to 'ide the truth from yourself, but it's too late for that. She 'as already wormed her way into your heart, just as surely as she 'as wormed her way into your bed."

I opened my mouth, willing some excuse, some reasoning to come out. Nothing did. She knew.

"Is she all right?" I asked again, voice softer. "That's all I want to know." I would have to deal with the fallout later, but for now...

"I found 'er on the edge of the forest, collapsed in the dirt, alone. Wha' do you think?"

"But she's all right?" My voice reached a fever pitch, every cell vibrating and crying out for her. If I had any doubt about my feelings for the human, this sealed it.

"She is fine now," Sidre said. "I think 'er belly was na' used to our food. But there's something else." Her voice lowered, her face turning to a scowl. "Something tha' could jeopardize all 'a this." Sidre waved her arm in a wide gesture.

"What?" I asked, throat tight.

"The 'uman is wi' child. She's pregnant, my king."
