When she burst out laughing, he chuckled.

“That happens anytime I look at you or think about you.”

“I feel the same way. I can’t wait to get this case solved so we can be together. If that’s what you want.”

“I do. You have to know that.”

“I was hoping—”

“Wilder? I need you to work in the stalls,” Buster said as he entered the barn.

“Damn it,” he muttered.

“What’s wrong?” Rory asked him.

“I swear, I’m on stall duty more than anyone around here,” he said in a low tone so Buster wouldn’t hear him.

“I’ll fix that.” She looked at Buster. “I already told him he was riding the fence with me.”

“It’s Hal and Bernie’s day to do that.”

“Well, find something else for them to do. I need to get out, so I’m riding the fence, and Wilder is going with me.”

“You’re the boss,” Buster muttered as he turned and walked out.

“Now, saddle a horse, and let’s go. I’ll get mine saddled and meet you out front in a few minutes.” Rory looked around, then kissed his lips.

“You’re the boss.” Wilder winked.

“You just remember that… agent.” She lightly touched his chest and then headed down the barn’s aisle.

“Shit, Richards, you seriously need to solve this damn case.”

Spending time with Rory was all he wanted to do right now. He knew that was wrong, but they didn’t get much time alone, and he’d take any time he could get with her. He was looking forward to the ride and being with her, if only for a little while. The phone call would have to wait.
