“Is it a big business? I’m sorry, that was nosy.”

“It’s fine, and yes, it’s a huge business. Our great-great-grandfather started the business when he was seventeen years old. He bought this land and started planting.”

“Guess where I’m getting a tree this year?”

Nick laughed. “I’ll give you a discount.”

“I’ll hold you to that.”

“I’m sure. Come on, let’s get out of this heat.” Nick inclined his head for her to proceed him up the steps and then reached around her to open the door.

Rory smiled when he sighed at the cooler air once they stepped inside. He set the case down and looked at her.

“I’ll be right back. I’ll just let Wild know you’re waiting. You can wait in the living room if you’d like.”

“I’m fine here if that’s all right.”

“Whatever you want to do is fine. Excuse me.”

Rory nodded as he strode from the room. Then she looked around the kitchen. It was a typical farmhouse kitchen. The white cabinets sported black hardware, and the white appliances sat nestled between red marble countertops. The large red and white tiled floor matched the color scheme. A large oval table sat centered in the room.

She pulled out a chair and took a seat at the table. It was less than a minute, and Nick reentered the kitchen.

“He’ll be right down. I’ve got some work to do. You two have a good rest of the day, tonight, and tomorrow.”

The heat poured into her cheeks as she glanced away from him. She heard him chuckle as the door opened, then closed. She placed her hand over her mouth and giggled.

Wilder entered the room a few minutes later, and her heart slammed against her ribs. She got to her feet and watched as he sauntered to her. He never took his eyes from hers and then stopped in front of her.

“Hi,” he said in a low voice.

“Hi.” She gazed into his eyes. “You smell so good.”

He huffed out a laugh. “You sure wouldn’t have said that earlier.”

Rory laughed, then stood on her toes and kissed his lips.

“Maybe not, but I’ll take you any way I can get you.”

His arms wrapped around her waist, and he pulled her close, then lowered his head.

“You’ll never have a problem getting me,” he said before pressing his lips to hers.

“You know the right things to say,” she said when he raised his lips.

“As long as it works, darlin’,” Wilder said, then kissed her. “Are you ready to go for a ride?”

“Yes, can you show me the Christmas trees?”

“I’ll show you anything you want to see.” He winked at her. “Let’s go, and we’ll get a couple of horses saddled.” He moved around her to get his hat off the peg by the door.

“My hat is in my vehicle.” She sighed as she watched him place his hat on his head and tug the brim low.

He jerked his head as he opened the door. “Let’s go, sweetheart.”

She smiled as she walked to the door, stood on her toes, kissed his lips again, and stepped onto the porch. Wilder took her hand in his, and they walked across the yard to the barns.
