He waved his hand dismissively. “I can shuffle things around a bit. It’s not every day that I’ve got a beautiful, smart woman to show around. Seeing our offices might give you some insight into the kind of operation we run. We can discuss any questions you may have over coffee.”
Stuck in a tight spot, I didn’t see any way out other than to shrug and keep smiling. “As lovely as that sounds, I’m afraid we might have to take a raincheck. It really does depend on timing.”
Before he could respond, another man motioned to us and called the meeting to order. Parker stalked to the front of the room, making no secret about the fact that he was pissed.
He started out okay, but John was seated next to me, and as he scooted his chair closer to mine, the wheels began to come off. Parker kept staring at him and it didn’t take him long to derail the pitch. Acting like a dumb frat boy, he practically tossed all those hours we’d spent practicing away with both hands.
Things went south fast and I didn’t foresee any chance of him making a comeback before it was too late.
Triple fuck. I guess we didn’t cover everything they could throw at him after all. Who would’ve thought that we needed to discuss how he should act if someone ended up flirting with his brand consultant?
Definitely not me. That was for sure. I sighed.
And back to the drawing board we go.
