“To see him.”
She sucks in a sharp breath, her eyes widening with shock.
“Y-you think… you think I’d want to see him after everything you’ve told me?”
Ripping the covers away, I slide my legs beneath her knees and wrap her trembling body in mine.
“I don’t know, baby. But I wanted you to have the option. I’ve taken so much from you. You deserve to make your own choice about him.”
She rests her head against my chest and sighs. “I don’t know whether I’m horrified or grateful.”
I can’t help but laugh, the insanity of all of this on top of my exhaustion making it hard to take seriously.
“You are legit fucking insane, you know that, right?”
“I’m more than aware, Demon. But what I want to know is, can you put up with my crazy brand of fucked up?”
She pulls back and looks up at me with her huge chocolate eyes, and my heart skips a beat.
“I think I could probably give it a go.”
A smile twitches at my lips. “You have no fucking idea what you’ve just agreed to, Demon. Wait until you meet all the others.”
I claim her lips in a kiss that leaves us both breathless.
“Surely they’re not any more terrifying than your sister. Did she really beat you up for hurting me?”
“Yes. She’s a fucking bad-arse. Never agree to get in a ring with her. She’s brutal.”
“Can’t say I’m in a rush to do that.”
“If you want some training though, she’ll sort you out. Emmie, too.”
“Who’s Emmie again?”
I smile down at her as my heart sings that she’s trying to make sense of my crazy world.
“I love you, Jodie.” The words fall from my lips without instruction from my brain, and I curse myself the second I realise I’ve said it when she specifically asked me not to. “Shit, I’m sorr—“
“Don’t. Please don’t ever apologise for being honest and telling me how you feel.”
“Okay. Can I show you too?” I ask with a smirk.
“Yeah, I think I’d be okay with that. Although, didn’t you bring coffee?”
