JODIE

“Oh my God,” I pant. “I’m pretty sure you fulfilled all those promises,” I say with a smirk as exhaustion from the last fuck knows how long with Toby begins to consume my body.

My skin is still on fire from his touch, both soft and tender and brutal and painful. Every single muscle in my body is convulsing from the three mind-numbing releases he just gave me, and my pussy is deliciously sore.

“I never back down on my word, baby,” he says, releasing my wrists before planting kisses around the tender skin where I was restrained. “What?” he asks, seeing something in my expression.

“I like it when you’re kinky,” I confess.

“Oh yeah?” he asks, a sparkle of something wicked in his own eyes.

“Yeah. I never quite know where I stand with you, and it’s thrilling.”

“I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not,” he mutters, rolling out of bed and strolling toward a door at the other side of the room.

“Oh, it’s definitely a good thing,” I call after him, stretching out the aches in my limbs and breathing in the scent of him on his pillow. “I love the thrill of not knowing what’s going to happen next.”

“That’s good. I hope it stays that way.”

“I’ve never been one to want a boring life.”

The toilet flushes before the sound of water running hits my ears, and a few seconds later, he appears looking like a Greek fucking god in the doorway with the light of the bathroom shining behind him.

“You want a drink?”

“Yeah,” I say with a laugh. “After that, I think I need more than one.”

He nods. “Get comfortable. I’ll be right back. I think it’s time we probably talked.”

My brows pinch as I study him, suddenly looking a little unsure of himself.

“What’s wrong? Surely you’ve already told me the worst?”

“You might be wise to keep the jury out on that.”

“O-okay,” I mutter to myself as he disappears from sight.

Rolling to the side of the bed, I swing my legs over and test them out gingerly to see if they’ll actually hold me up. When I’m confident that they will, I swipe his shirt from the floor and pull it on, buttoning it up wrong but not having the energy to fix it as I pad toward the bathroom.

“Wow,” I breathe, taking in the sheer size of it.

I got a quick look at his flat before he marched me into his bedroom, and it pretty much looked like I predicted. A bachelor pad. Everything was grey, black, and white. There didn’t seem to be any kind of sentimental items that I spotted. But although it might be what I expected from a young, single guy living alone, from knowing Toby as I do, I would have thought there would have been more softness, more family. It’s more than obvious just how much he loves his mum and sister, so I expected maybe a little bit of them here.

It’s just another reminder that really, I don’t know him all that well. Something I can only hope will change now he’s opened himself up entirely to me. Because I want it. I want to explore this with him in the hope that it just might be something.

Does the whole mafia thing bother me? Yeah, I guess it does a little. But I think that might only be because I’m basing my opinion of it all on what I’ve seen on TV and online. I might be naïve, but I’m not stupid enough to think that’s anything like reality.

I clean up, wash my hands and attempt to do something with the makeup that’s smeared all over my face before heading back with butterflies in my belly.

My insides somersault when I find him sitting back against his headboard with a tablet beside him and two drinks on the side. Sensing my attention, he looks up, and the most delicious smile spreads across his face, although I can’t deny that there is a darkness in his eyes that makes my stomach knot with worry.

“You’re too far away.”

Not needing to be told twice, I take off toward him, climbing onto the bed and snuggling into his side.

He’s tense beside me as silence falls around us. I can’t explain why, but the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end and a tight knot twists up my stomach.

“Toby, what is it?” I ask, dread beginning to flow through my veins.
