“What have you done?”
I pause for a beat, just watching him as he begins to panic.
“Quite a few things, actually,” I confess. “But you’ll be pleased to know that I’ve actually managed to record some of the better bits to ensure you don’t miss them down here in the dark. It must be so lonely, thinking that the only two people in this world who actually cared about you believe you're dead.”
I press another button and the empty room at Hades comes into view.
“Now, don’t worry. I’ve got it on loop, so you won’t miss anything while I’m out enjoying my night. Hopefully, it’ll help distract you from thinking about what we’re doing.”
Obviously predicting where this is going, he gets to his feet, somewhat clumsily, and launches himself at me.
Unfortunately for him, I’m faster and have my gun freed from my waistband before he’s barely moved.
“Back up, old man. I might not want you dead yet, but we all know I could aim this in enough places to keep you going for a good few days. After all, you taught me all of them. Remember?” A growl rumbles deep in his throat. “I never knew the knowledge would come in so handy.”
With the gun still pointed between his eyes, I back up toward the door, leaving him standing in the middle of the room looking like a lost puppy.
“How the mighty fall, Jonas. How the mighty fall. You had such a promising future ahead of you. But now look. You’re dead to anyone who cares and a deceitful, backstabbing cunt to everyone else. I press play and Jodie and I burst into the room, her eyes going wide as she takes it all in. I don’t need to look at the screen to know her exact reaction. I’ve seen it with my own eyes more than enough times to have it memorised.
“Enjoy your night, old man. I know I will.” I pull the door open and slip out as Jodie’s voice rings through the hidden speakers from the video. “This is… incredible.”
I’ve almost slipped out when I add the final blow. “If you’re really lucky, at some point that might just turn into a live feed. I think it’s about time she learned the truth, don’t you?”
I slam the door shut a second before his body collides with it. If the room he was contained in wasn’t soundproof, I’m sure I’d be hearing his roar of disapproval and anger right about now.
But as it is, I climb the stairs with a smirk on my face and accomplishment filling my veins.
Tucking my piece away, I pull my phone out once more.
Toby: On my way, Demon. I hope you’re ready for the best night of your life.
She starts typing instantly.
Toy: That’s some promise there, Tobias. Pulling out the big guns, are we?
“Oh, Demon. You have no fucking idea.”
