“I had a feeling you’d say that, so I got these for you two.”
She throws a bag at each of us and we pull out wet-look leggings and crop tops.
“Well, it’s better than a skirt, I guess.”
“Stop your bitching and get your ass into them. They might even help end your drought.”
Emmie’s lips part to argue, but she quickly shuts them again, knowing that she doesn’t have a comeback.
By the time we’re dressed and our hair and makeup are on point, we’ve finished off the cocktails and made our way through the bottle of vodka Emmie had in her purse.
I’m feeling more than a little lightheaded as we make our way down the stairs to meet our vampire escorts.
“Whoa,” I breathe when we find the five of them waiting at the bottom of the stairs for us.
“Holy shit,” Emmie gasps beside me, but her reaction is swallowed by the guys’ laughter at our outfits.
Both Emmie and I are rocking the leggings, her with biker boots and me with killer heels, whereas Calli has gone all girly with her skirt and Mary Janes.
“Fuck, you look unbelievable,” Seb says, dragging me into his body and leaning in to kiss me.The contacts in his eyes make them even more mesmerizing than usual, and I utterly drown in them.
“Uh-uh, no ruining the lipstick. Suck my neck, baby.” I wink, and he groans as if he’s in pain.
“Let’s get this show on the road, kids,” Nico announces, sounding bored out of his mind.
“What’s up with him? And where’s his shirt?”
“Fuck knows. Come on.” Seb threads his finger through mine and we make our way out to the cars.
The drive to the abandoned building is shorter than I was expecting, but the second we pull off the main road and head down the dark lane with low, overhanging trees, shivers begin to run down my spine.
“You okay?” Seb whispers in my ear, sensing my reaction.
“Yeah, of course.” I smile widely at him, telling myself that it’s just the anticipation of what this night full of horror might hold.
Calli has promised the scare house of all scare houses, so I guess we’re soon to find out if she’s about to eat her words. Although, if my reaction is anything to go by, then I don’t think she will be.
“Oh wow,” I breathe as what I can only assume is the location of the party comes into view.
The old building looks creepy enough as it is without the zombies that seem to be surrounding it, greeting everyone as they arrive.
Smoke fills the dark sky and low lights flicker in the windows. None of it does much for the unease that’s trickling through my veins.
“You sure you’re okay?” Seb asks again.
“Yeah, I’m excited.”
“Damn, I hoped you’d be terrified and have to cling onto me all night.” He winks and I laugh at him, loving his goofiness.
The cars come to a stop and we pile out, meeting the others who join us.
“See, I told you,” Calli says excitedly, bouncing on her feet.
“It’s… really something.”
Glancing over at Emmie, I find her also looking up at the old building with something like awe on her face.
Feeling my stare, she looks back at me.
