I grabbed the sides of my hair, the ear splitting roar that erupted from me cleaving the air and rattling the windows. Ivory flinched, pressing her back to the wall but never leaving me alone as everything inside of me finally broke.

I wasn’t even aware of the first chair in my hands until I slammed it down against the floor, the wood structure shattering into pieces under the force of my assault.

“Scar,” Ivory said, her voice pleading.

I grabbed the vase off the coffee table, throwing it at the flat screen until both the screen and the vase shattered into a million pieces and rained glass down on the hardwood floors.

“Scar,” Ivory repeated, never attempting to come near me.

My attack on the room continued, a mindless frenzy where I destroyed everything I could take in my hands. One day, it would be the necks of the men who’d dared to even look at Irina.

One day, I’d make them suffer.

But for now, I was nothing more than a monster without his love.

“Scar!” Ivory shouted, finally piercing the haze. She pushed off the wall, coming closer to me and lifting her feet to step over the carnage that had once been her living room.

“I’m sorry,” I murmured, dropping to my knees. “I’m so sorry.”

She dropped next to me, wrapping an arm around my shoulder and pressing her mouth to the side of my head. We knelt there, losing track of time.

Until I realized that it wasn’t only Ivory’s tears soaking the front of my shirt.

But mine.
