It sounds like he’s close to giving up, and I can’t have that. Not when I’m this close to the truth.
“I’m working on getting answers for you,” I tell him. “I need a little more time.”
“Time,” Adam huffs, and I can hear the frustration pouring off him.
I feel like a complete asshole.
I can only hope that when the truth comes out, he understands why I held back, why I waited for definite answers. I don’t want him to give up, but I never want to give him false hope either.
“Shouldn’t be more than a couple more weeks.”
“I’ve waited this long.”
“I know it’s been a long time coming. You’ve been patient as fuck, and I know it’s not easy. I’ll call you as soon as I have something definite to give you.”
“Thanks, Jake. In case I don’t say it enough… I appreciate everything you’re doing for me.”
