CHAPTER24
LUCIA
I’ve never been on a horse before, but as Jax’s horse, Bastian, races through the fields, I know that it’s something I’m going to grow to love. Despite the fact that I’m pissed at him, I lean back against his chest and close my eyes. The sun on my face and the wind in my hair, it feels like there is no one in the world but me, him and this magnificent animal. I can’t deny that being encased in his arms doesn’t feel good too.
Jax pulls Bastian to a stop near a stream and under the shade of a huge tree. He climbs off and turns to me, placing his hands on my waist.
“Jax,” I protest but he’s already lifting me and suddenly I’m in his arms. “Put me down!”
“Steady on, wildcat,” he chuckles. “I’ll put you down now—just be careful on that ankle.”
My ankle. I was having so much fun that I forgot about my sore ankle. As if to remind me, it throbs as he sets me gently on my feet.
“How is it?” he asks as he looks down at my foot, his face full of concern.
“Fine, but it would be better if you’d taken me back to the house and let me ice it instead.”
His Adam’s apple bobs in his throat as he swallows. I shouldn’t give him such a hard time, but he drives me crazy with his constant mixed messages.
“I’ll take you back soon if that’s what you really want. Just let Bastian have a quick breather. He’s not as young as he used to be.” Then he sits on the floor and leans back on his hands and I have to avert my eyes from his thick thighs and his stiff cock encased in those tight jeans.
“Why did you bring me here, Jax?”
He licks his lips but he doesn’t reply.
“Why wouldn’t you let Cody give me a ride?”
That seems to provoke something in him and his face darkens. “You know why.”
I sit beside him on the ground. “No, I don’t. Is he a bad guy?”
“No,” he snaps. “Why? You like him?”
“He’s funny. Kind of cute, too,” I say with a shrug.
“Yeah, well I didn’t bring you here so you could fuck some random cowboy. I brought you here to keep you safe,” he snarls.
“But you get to fuck whoever you want while we’re here though?” I turn to him and frown. “So, why can’t I?” I have no intention of having sex with Cody or anyone else for that matter, but Jax’s double standards make me pissed.
He moves so quickly that I gasp out loud as he rolls on top of me, taking my wrists and pinning them to the ground. “If you’re looking to be fucked, Lucia, you come to me. You got that?” He rocks his hips against me and I feel his hard cock pressing against my pussy.
God, I want him so bad, but I’m not going to be another notch on his bedpost—at least not for a second time.
I close my eyes because if I keep looking at him, he’ll know how much I want him.
“One of the horses needed a shot so I helped Shannon keep it calm,” he says, his breath skittering over my cheek and making me shiver. “I fell on my ass and into some horse shit. That’s what you saw, Angel. The aftermath of that. Nothing more.”
I open my eyes again and look at him. “Really? You and she never—?”
“No. You think I would do that? While I’m here with you? After what we did?” He frowns at me.
“But you and me—you said that was just one night?” I breathe as the heat builds in my core.
He sucks in a breath. “One night that I can’t stop thinking about, Luce. I replay it over in my head every single moment I’m alone.”
“You do?” I blink at him, because I do too.
“I can’t stop fucking thinking about you,” he growls. “How you smell. How good you taste. Your hot, tight pussy squeezing my cock. The way you moan my name when you come for me.”
