“Anything?” he asked.

“No.” I swiped over to my camera. “Take a selfie with me.”

“A freeway selfie?”

“Yes, memories and all that.”

“You actually want to stand next to me in a picture?”

A laugh burst out of me. “I didn’t think you noticed.”

“Oh, I noticed.”

“It was my passive-aggressive payback for…”

“For me ruining our reunion?”

“Yes, but that was before realizing my past self totally ruinedit.”

He smirked. “Come here.” He situated himself slightly behind me and put his face next to my cheek. His hands went to my hips and logically I knew it was to stabilize himself, but a shiver went through me.

“Look how cute we are,” I said to cover up my reaction. I snapped several pics and then tucked my phone away.

“There’s a sign,” he said, pointing ahead.

“Five miles?” I said. “I was hoping this way would produce a closer town.”

“Maybe we’ll get service before then?”

“We better. I don’t remember the last time I walked five miles.”

He laughed.

“You and your new running rugby body think I’m kidding.”

“Running rugby body?”

I waved my hand up and down, indicating the whole of him. “Wait…is that why you do rugby now?”

“Because of my body?”

“No,” I said, and laughed when I realized he hadn’t heard the thought process I’d had in my head so of course that’s what he would think I meant. “Your dad. Do you do it for your dad?”

His brows furrowed together in irritation. “Why do you think I’m doing everything for my dad?”

“I don’t know. Rugby is just so…new.”

“I have grown up a little, Nor.”

“I know.” Idefinitelyknew. I kept my eyes straight ahead so I wouldn’t check him out with the statement.

“Tell me something new about your life that would surprise me,” he said.

“You don’t like all the new stuff in my life. I’m a mean girl now.”

“Stop.”

I smiled at him to show I was mostly kidding. “New…”Well, apparently, I want to kiss you. Is that new enough?
