“And how do we know you’re not taking us right to your boss?”

Brianna drags her tent to the side of the rock that I’ve asked and looks back at both of us before climbing inside. “It’s pouring, it’s late, and I wasn’t made for this Daniel Boone shit. So… let me know when y’all have figured out our future, and if bullets start flying don’t forget the pregnant lady in bed.”

Reese shakes her head and jogs toward Brianna in the rain, tucking into the tent to have a short conversation in which I can hear none of, but I guess they are arguing by the way hands are being waved through the shadows of the tent.

While they’re talking, I move to secure the rest of the area, wrapping trees with the metal wire and alarm string. I’d brought it with me in case of bears, but it will siren in case of intruders as well. It’s a dark night with a ton of cloud cover. If I string these low enough to the ground, even the most skilled tracker wouldn’t see this thin line.

When Reese finally stands from Brianna’s tent and moves back toward her’s, her face is grimaced and her long silky hair is dripping wet. Now, is probably not the time to notice how hot she looks, but the rain has defined every thick curve. Without looking toward me, she drags her tent twenty feet from Brianna’s on the opposite side of the rock, tucking it away from view before looking up.

“I want you in here with me.” She barks the words out as though they’re an order.

My cock agrees, but my brain is confused. “What? Why?”

“My parents told me a lot of things growing up, and suddenly, I’m regretting not listening. They told me to stay away from weirdos and I should’ve followed that advice closer. But another waskeep your friends close, and your enemies closer. And this time, I’m going to do as I was taught.”
