CHAPTER4

“Please, can we go?”Regina said like an excited child as she held tightly onto a flyer, her eyes wide with glee. The middle of her glasses was taped together, my heart hurt a little. I was pissed off that Fallon treated her the way she did. She was waiting for her mum to bring her new frames to school, but she didn’t let it bother her. She just got on with it and I admired her for that.

I sighed, taking the flyer from her.

“Why do you want to go so bad?” I asked, my eyes scanning over the little flyer.

“Because it’s the end of month party, I’ve never been to one before as I have never had any friends, well… I have you this time.” She smiled at me.

“Fallon and her shitty entourage are going to be there…” It didn’t bother me, but I didn’t want Regina to go and be on edge all night.

“Screw Fallon.”

“That’s the spirit,” I winked, handing her the flyer back, “meet me outside my room at nine when it’s lights off.” I said quietly, as we stood in the busy halls.

She nodded, looking over her shoulder like a secret squirrel. I wasn’t sure why, most of the higher years of the school would be there.

And for some reason, I was excited about seeing Fallon again.

The familiar buzzes, tones and beeps filled the halls as eyes cast over phone screens could only mean one thing. A blast.

WCG here,

Rumour has it a little party is going on tonight, I can’t wait to see what drama unfolds.

And here’s hoping it’s between Fallon and Ivy.

Who’s going to win this fist fight? My money is on the new girl.

Rolling my eyes, I shoved my phone into my blazer pocket and stormed towards the classroom. I needed today over with, but I wanted the party over even more.

But I promised I would go with Regina.

Dropping my rucksack on the floor by my feet, my eyes flicked up to Professor Buckley, his dark eyes connecting with mine as his lips turned at the corners with a hint of a smile. I felt comfortable with him, we were both in this sinking ship together.

The day whizzed past, and it wasn’t long before I was in the shower and mentally preparing myself for the party. Butterflies swarmed my tummy, goosebumps pricked at my skin at the thought of being face to face with Fallon again. The funny thing is, she doesn’t scare me. She acts out as if she is the Queen B of the school, but underneath that false bravado she is just a silly little girl.

I brushed through my now styled hair, I didn’t do curls or anything fancy. It was either straight down my back or pulled into a ponytail.

My eyes trailed up and down my reflection in the mirror, I was wearing sheen black tights that you could see my skin through, light denim high waisted shorts with a black bodysuit that slipped inside the waistband. Finishing the look off with a cropped, black leather jacket and chunky, black boots.

Slipping gold hoops through my ears I slipped a couple of rings onto my long, skinny fingers. Spritzing myself with perfume, I shoved my phone in my back pocket and waited by the front door for Regina’s soft knock.

Looking at the time, it had just gone nine. Smiling, at the light tapping, I pulled the door open to see a cutely dressed Regina. She had a black, pinafore dress that sat over a puffed sleeve shirt and finished off with black tights and pumps.

“You look lovely,” I whispered as I closed the door quietly, looking up and down the hallway to make sure the coast was clear. Grabbing a clearly anxious Regina, I tugged her down the hall and towards the gate keeper’s house. I don’t know how they get away with it, unless Sydney the gate keeper was taking bribes. Wouldn’t surprise me, nothing would in this boarding school. Walking cautiously towards the main door, I held my breath until we were across the green. Looking at Regina, we both burst into fits of laughter. I wasn’t sure if it was the nerves or the realisation of what we were about to do, but it felt nice to laugh with a friend.

We stood outside the gate keeper’s door, both checking over our shoulder occasionally. Why did it seem so quiet? Had we been tricked into coming here?

“You sure we’re at the right place?” I whispered to Regina who was fiddling with her bag to pull the leaflet out. She shoved it under my nose. Yup. We were definitely in the right place. Inhaling deeply, I knocked on the wooden door with force before stepping back and waiting. Maybe it was a trick. Maybe there was no party. My lips parted, turning my head to speak to Regina when the door opened slowly, Sydney’s head popping out.

His eyes lifted, looking behind both of us before they fell to mine. No words were exchanged, he just dropped his head and opened the door for us to walk through. I stepped cautiously through the stuffy lounge area; it was quiet… too quiet. Sydney rushed past us, he seemed jittery and nervous which unsettled me. But I got it, he was putting his job on the line for bratty, over privileged rich teens who weren’t afraid to throw their parents cash around.

We followed him to the kitchen, when he stopped abruptly at the tall, fridge door.

My lips curled into a smile; my arms crossed against my chest. Regina was pressed up against my back, her head popping over my shoulder as she watched Sydney with intent.

He looked over his shoulders at us, his short, cropped red hair was messy as he pressed his finger to his thin lips. Pushing the silver handle down on the fridge, he opened it slowly as the music pumped from the area behind the fridge.
