She checked voice mail and found three messages. Tapping the Play button, she listened.

“Hi, Liv. This is Hailey Wright. Can you call me when you get a chance?”

“Hailey’s the server who waited on us at my parents’ restaurant.”

“I remember. You scared off her sister Ivy’s stalker.” He raised a brow. “But I didn’t know your parents owned Plate It.”

“That’s because I didn’t want you to know at the time.”

“Why?”

“Some people change once they hear I’m a Thornton. It’s like a light switch, once they associate me with their money. One moment I’m interesting and, the next, I’m very interesting.”

The second message came in twelve minutes later. This one, she put on speaker.

“Liv, I’m sorry to bother you, but this is about my sister, Ivy,” her voice lowered to a whisper, “and that issue you helped her out with. Call me, please.”

The skin on Liv’s chest prickled as she detected the first rumbling of fear in the server’s voice.

She hit the Play button on the last message.

Hailey’s cries filled the air. “Ivy is missing.”
