Chapter 31

Nash had watched Luna jump off the back of the stage, and moved to intercept her, but she had disappeared.

“Maybe she went back to the car seeing you scared her off?” Hugo glared at him.

Pulling out his phone, Nash called her, but she didn’t pick up.

“If you see her, call me,” he said to anyone listening. “Which way is the car?”

Hugo pointed down the road. Nash started moving. He weaved through people looking everywhere for her.

“Nash!”

“Can’t stop, Albert, I’m looking for Luna.”

“She went that way. Said she was leaving, you need to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

“On it.” He raised his hand.

“Nash!”

“Can’t stop, Miss Marla, I’m looking for Luna.”

“She just left us after buying tea and a lemon and blueberry muffin. She said she was leaving. You need to stop that happening.”

“Working on it,” he muttered. Leaving the Robbins sisters, he walked straight into Kirsty.

“Hi, Nash.”

“I don’t have time for you now, Kirsty.”

“I need to tell you something.”

She looked nervous to Nash, eyes not meeting his.

“Are you all right?” He may be pissed with the way she’d behaved in the florist that day, but he still didn’t want to see her hurting.

She nodded. “I need to apologize to you and Luna. What I did was wrong, but after seeing you lick her hand in the florist, I-I was angry.”

“Apologize for what?” Nash was looking up and down the street. There was still no sign of Luna. But she’d be all right. Too many people were around for anything to happen to her surely.

“I didn’t mean to send it, but I realized that you wouldn’t take me back if she stayed in town. So, I sent that picture to her at the lodge.”

His eyes snapped back to Kirsty.

“You sent Luna that photo with the knife drawn in her chest?”

She was crying now. “Yes. I’m sorry. I-I just wanted you back and I was angry. I know now that’s not going to happen.”

“Fuck, Kirsty. That terrified Luna.”And me,Nash added silently.

“I know. I had no right to do what I did. I just wasn’t’ ready to give up on us, and thought if she left, you’d look at me again. But then I saw how much you care about her.”

“When did you see how much I care about her?” Nash asked.

“I was at the rec center and saw you with her. Watched you go after that guy who upset her. The photographer. I knew you’d never care about me like that again.”

“Hell, Kirsty.”
