“Time to pluck some petals.” Kiernan grinned. “She loves me, she loves me not.”

Piper wrinkled her nose. “Not my sister.”

Kiernan cupped his ear as if he hadn’t heard her and kept walking. Lucky for her, Calista had her eye on a completely different Snowers player, as did she.

Mikah held out his hand. “Dance?”

Nice. Piper met his gaze and took his hand.

They danced well together. She rolled her body to the beats. The music curled around them, keeping the sensual rhythm going. Mikah touched her waist, her shoulders, her neck, keeping them connected. Would be nice to go back to his room and dance with him in private. Did his room have a private tub? She could get behind that.

Mikah cupped her hips in a possessive grip, pulling her from the path of other dancers.

Would her friends mind if she skipped out early? Piper looked over at her group. Cocktails and toasts were flowing back at her table, and her friends had made room for Kiernan and Liam. “Looks like they’re having fun.” Let’s find some privacy.

Mikah eased her hair off her shoulder. “Focus on me.”

She liked that. Piper held in her giggle. She was so into this guy. How he looked after his friends, how he always found her when she was in the room, how he looked like he’d die if he couldn’t have her when they kissed. She felt the same.

Sensing her wishes, Mikah leaned down and kissed her, a sexy teasing brush of his lips on hers. The chemistry lit through her from her lips downward, promising wilder pleasure. Piper craved his hands, in a way she never had before. She parted her lips. Mikah deepened the kiss, and his tongue tangled with hers. Ah, more. The wave of skittery excitement lit up her body everywhere he’d been touching earlier. She wanted his hands on her, nothing between them.

Mikah wrapped his arms around her waist and hugged her closer. “You feel so good.”

Even simple words said in his deep voice made her quiver, taking her arousal up a notch. “You too.”

The crowd chatter went quiet and then increased. It was the reception of someone famous. That happened to the guys when they went places. They should get out of here. Piper turned her gaze to the door. Mikah kissed her neck. Shiver.

A group of tall, beautiful women strolled in.

Supermodels.

CHAPTER 22

Piper could name the lead supermodel, and she knew if she flipped open a magazine, she could match the other faces to names. “What’s happening?”

Mikah bit off a curse. “I was hooking Liam up. Had the guys invite some app women.” He spoke in a faster pattern than normal, quickly trying to justify his actions like she was interrogating him.

“You know those women? They’re famous.”

“Not that famous.” Mikah took a deep breath. “The guys sent out the invites.”

Oh.

Piper wasn’t romantically naïve enough to wonder how this would go down. It wasn’t even that subtle. The players in the room were all bowing away from whomever they were speaking with to greet the new model peeps, just flowing to them as if they’d been dipped in pollen and the guys were winter-starved bees.

Piper threw her gaze to the daisy table. “Ouch. I’d better check on my friends.”

“They’re adults, stay with me.”

Sure, because the shift in the room would change. Some of the millionaire athletes would turn their backs on the international superstar models and opt for the lovely hometown ladies. From there, the numbers would even out despite the most beautiful women in the world having entered the room, that could happen.

Or her pretty friends would become literal wallflowers. One of the reasons she liked Mikah was his loyalty to his friends, she shared that trait and looked after hers too. “You know those guys. You know how this is going to go.”

Mikah shook his head, opened and closed his mouth, but no words came out.

But really, what could he say?

He sighed. “They’re idiots.”
