“Come on in. You can set everything on the mattress for now. Come and meet my fiancée.”
He pulled Beth over and then wrapped an arm around Faith. “Beth, I want you to meet Faith.” He looked down at her. “Baby, this is Alistair’s woman, Beth.”
Beth smiled and held out a hand, which Faith took. He took a step back to let them get acquainted.
“Girls, I’m going down to get some things done. Clarice will bring lunch up to you.”
He turned at the door and saw Faith staring at him.
“I’ll be back.”
She nodded and bit her lip.
He made it down to his office, walked in, and sat down. He’d only been working five minutes when Tony knocked on the open door.
“Come in.” He waited until his security guy and friend closed the door sat down. “What’s up?”
“I started going through video from yesterday and was surprised when I saw a guy break into your office and then later, Beth coming out of your office, but I never saw her go in.”
Graham sighed and relaxed back.
“It wasn’t Beth. It was Faith Moretti.”
“Are you shitting me? What the hell is she doing here?”
Graham went over the whole story with him.
“I’d like to get my hands on both men,” Tony said.
“A lot of us feel this way.”
“Did you recognize the man?”
“I have no idea who the man in your office was,” Tony said. “I’ll email a picture of him to you to see if you recognize him.”
“That’s a good idea. Faith was in the bathroom hiding when he came in. She said he snooped through my drawers and tried to find my safe but didn’t. He spit on the tray of food I gave you.”
Tony nodded. “Ah, so the DNA testing?”
Graham nodded. “I’m not sure if it can help, but it’s worth a try. Was the guy one of the strangers in the house?”
“Yes, he came in as refrigerator repair guy. I called the company and had them send me a picture of the guy. It wasn’t the same man. They don’t know what happened to the regular man yet. After he left, this guy dumped the van across town. I put his face into the face-recognition software we have but haven’t gotten anything yet. What in the hell do you think he was after?”
“I have no idea. The fact he spit on the food tells me it’s personal,” Graham said.
“I agree. I’ve canceled all deliveries to the house for the rest of the week. I’m sending some guys to get what we need for the household.”
“Good idea until we find out who he is.”
“So, you’re really getting married tonight?” Tony grinned.
“Yes.”
“You look pretty happy about it, which shocks me. It wasn’t a month ago you were saying you didn’t want to get married for several years.”
Graham shrugged. “Shit changes.”
“You’re right about that. I’ll get back to you when I find anything.” Tony stood.
Graham sat back and thought about what his life would be like after his marriage, and he couldn’t find anything that would make him second guess himself. Faith was his, and she would stay his for the rest of their lives.
