“Mmm,” she moaned as he broke free of her lips and met her gaze.

“You’re killing me, sweetheart.” He grabbed her hand and gave it a tug. “We need to catch up.” Though the last thing he wanted to do was catch up with anyone anywhere, but they needed to for safety. It was rare for them to encounter any human or animal on this path toward their compound, but it could happen. It would be foolish to let his guard down.

“Did I pass?” she teased as she hurried alongside him, leaning into him.

He squeezed her hand and brought it to his lips again. “Did I?” he tossed back at her.

“Well, my only other kisses belonged to Jay, so I don’t have a lot to compare,” she joked.

He groaned. “How about you judge us each on our own merit and don’t compare?”

“That seems like a good idea.” She tugged his hand and picked up the pace to a near jog. “Come on.”
