“Everything I’ve done lately has been for you. I wasn’t exactly on board for this faux engagement, you know.”

She was being the very definition of stubborn. Frustrated, he huffed, “You had no problem putting the ring on, moving in with me and sharing my bed.”

“Unbelievable.” She turned on her heel and stomped into the bedroom.

The door shut with a snick, leaving him standing by the windows, hands on his hips. That fight certainly hadn’t felt fake. So, what did she expect? Two more weeks of living with him, of pretending to be engaged, and then they’d live on opposite coasts?

He’d have to attend the show’s premiere by himself. The optics on that wouldn’t be good. Everything had gone smoothly until now. What had changed?

As hard as he’d worked to reach this point in his career, he’d be damned if he’d watch it fall apart now. Granted, the success of the show didn’t hinge on his being engaged to Meghan Squire, but their relationship was too important to let go so soon.

Everything had fallen apart once in his life, to disastrous consequences. Max leaving to pursue his own dreams had caused a domino effect that had left Isaac grappling for some semblance of normal for years. He wouldn’t go through that again. He couldn’t.

Not only for the sake of his career, but for his sanity. He deserved good things. And what about Meghan? Staying here might hold her back. She had momentum, and with the right connections they could build her an empire. Hell, a friend of his back home had recently sold his podcast for sixty million dollars. Sixty mil would be a windfall. She’d never have to work again.

She was smart, but inexperienced. Just because she didn’t see the massive potential of returning to LA with him didn’t mean he couldn’t. She needed him, whether she liked it or not.

He’d find a way to prove it to her.
