Kendall held Meghan at arm’s length. “I said I was sorry.”

“California!” came a bellow from upstairs. “Water’s getting cold!”

“Go.” Meghan shooed her sister off to join her very hot boyfriend in a not-so-hot shower. Then she stepped out onto the patio to finish her coffee and take in the beautiful mountains, woods and wildflowers behind the house.

She was making the right decision. She could feel it in her gut. Pretending to be Isaac’s girlfriend wasn’t irresponsible. If anything, it was responsible. Her ad revenue had taken a hit over the last year, and she’d begun to worry she might have to find a—gulp—real job. She didn’t want to be tied to a desk again. She wanted to continue to grow her podcast. Isaac could help her do that.

And if, perchance, those walks while they held hands turned into snuggles or kisses or more, well... Who was Meghan to deny the natural attraction between them? She was doing this for her career more than steamy kisses under a starry night sky, but if it included both, she wouldn’t argue.

She was a strong, capable, fun-loving adult. She could sign on for work and play at the same time and walk away afterward with her head held high.
