“Yep. I’ll text it to you. Let me see your phone. I’ll put the app on it so you can control it from anywhere.”
As I hand over my phone to him, I’m astounded by the trust he’s placing in me by giving me access to his home.
A minute later, he returns the phone to me. “There you go.” He shows me how to use the app for the security system. “I realized I never showed you my room. Come see.”
The look he gives me is all heat. I take the hand he offers me and follow him to the first-floor main bedroom, which is huge even with a king-sized bed taking up a big chunk of the space. “You have a fireplace!”
“Yeah, it’s pretty nice on the four or five days it gets really cold in the winter.”
“I love fireplaces.”
“I’d be happy to light it—and turn down the AC so it doesn’t sweat us out—if you’d like.”
“You don’t have to do that.”
“I know I don’t. I want to. Go get comfy and come back.”
“You’re like the devil.” Although this devil is nothing like the one I was married to. Nico is a different kind of devil—the best kind.
His brow furrows. “How so?”
“I keep telling myself I need to walk away from you—for your own good—but you keep giving me reasons to stay.”
“Please don’t walk away from me. You’re what’s good for me.”
“We both know that’s not true.”
“Yes, it is.”
“Everyone was warning me away from you, but they should’ve been warning you away from me.”
“All the warnings in the world wouldn’t change the fact that I want you like I’ve never wanted anyone else.”
I fan my face. “It’s getting warm in here, and you haven’t lit the fireplace yet.”
His smile is the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen. “You haven’t seen hot yet, baby.”
“Oh boy. Be right back.”
“I’ll be here.”
