Moreover, he never did casual hookups. The world’s unending interest in his love life had ensured that he needed to trust a person to spend time with them. And he wasn’t sure he could trust the woman who wrote “In Case You Didn’t Know.” But he struggled to believe the woman he kept seeing was that gossip reporter. Although knowing Taran was writing about Clay made it hard for Corey to ignore that aspect.

“She is featuring Clayton,” Will agreed. “He called an hour ago. He’s stoked about the story.”

Corey frowned.

Will just raised his eyebrows.

“I don’t know.” Corey sighed.

“You better figure it out,” Will suggested. “Because she’ll be hanging around with the whole family, and they’ll want to know what’s going on with you two.”

Corey shook his head, reminding himself that he loved the big, noisy, highly involved family he’d been brought into. He had always craved a supportive family, and although he’d been welcomed as a part of the Evanses, there was always that tingle of outsiderness. He was included, but they weren’t his.

“Lucky for me, the team is going on the road where the family won’t bug me.”

“Want to bet?” Will asked.
