“I just wanted to see how you’re doing. Not being able to see you has been killing me.”

“And you are?”

“Liam told me you were having trouble remembering. I’m Tessa. We’ve been friends since September, and you are my Maid of Honor.”

So not only do I have a boyfriend, but a best friend that I can’t recognize. I feel as if I have woken up in someone else’s body. “I don’t know you. Sorry.”

Tessa pulls out her phone, and hands it to me. “Maybe this will help.”

I start scrolling through her social media account to see tons of pictures of us together, smiling and laughing. Pictures don’t lie. She obviously knows me and we’re close, but I’m not that girl.

“I see you with me, but that doesn’t change the fact I don’t recognize you. There are no memories.”

A single tear sheds, leaving a wet streak down her face, and she retreats from the room.

“Can you please tell me about the break-in and the assault? I need to know,” I ask the police officer standing next to my door.

“My name’s Scott, ma’am. I can only tell you what I personally know, other than that, Liam might be able to answer more questions. He was the one who you called to be with you when we were searching your house, and he was the one to get you out of your house alive after the assault.”

So, the police have seen him with me, so him being my boyfriend can’t be a total lie. Confirmed. “My house was broken into... did you catch them?”

“No, ma’am. From what you told us, nothing was taken. House was just ransacked. We ran fingerprints, but got no hits.”

“And this Liam guy. How do you know he’s not responsible?”

“We ran his fingerprints and blood, and it came back negative.. Just a good guy who stayed by your side every day for the past two weeks.”

Okay, that clears him off the list of potential suspects. “And the assault?”

He explains the police were alerted by a neighbor about a fire inside my house, and Liam found me tied to a chair, beaten and unconscious. What the hell have I done over the last nine years to warrant someone wanting to do that to me? They have no suspects for either crime, and I’m sitting in this hospital bed, memory wiped.

“Was I raped?” I ask, staring at the wall, not knowing if I even want to know the answer.

“No. Thank God. No sign of that.”

A sigh escapes my throat, just trying to cover all my bases before Liam comes back so I can ask him a few questions. If we have been spending a lot of time together, he must know me the best. And if so, then he would be able to give me more answers than the officer could.

Still, how could I trust him fully without knowing him? He could be some crazy stalker guy pretending to be my boyfriend.
