Tessa

Today is Halloweenand one of Emily’s favorite holidays. After what happened yesterday, I will need to think long and hard about what that means for our living situation, but it’s on the back burner until tomorrow.

“So, are you excited for tonight?” I ask Emily.

“When are we going to get my princess costume?”

“After breakfast. Make sure you eat,” Damon replies.

We haven’t had a chance to really talk about what went on last night, but right now my focus is on my daughter and making this a great holiday for her. Every year we usually find her a costume at Goodwill, almost always a princess, and then I dress up too.

“What are you gonna be?” she asks, looking straight at Damon.

“Oh, you want me to dress up too?”

“You and Mom could be. Hmm. Maybe Cinderella and Prince Charming? Mommy looks pretty in blue.”

Her reference only makes me laugh, and then Damon is staring at me. “That’s a great idea. We will see what we can find.”

After breakfast is over, we all get dressed and head out to obtain costumes. There are too many to choose from at this point, but Emily finds an Elsa dress and falls in love with it.

“Can I get this one? It’s perfect.”

“Sure thing. You want to help your mom and me find one?”

She nods and heads over to the adult costume section, which has a lot more to choose from than the kids. Weird. As she is sifting through, I see a lot of inappropriate costumes, but she doesn’t even notice, and then she comes across this blue princess dress.

“This one.” She grabs it off the low rack and hands it to me and then continues to look for something for Damon.

There isn’t really anything Prince Charming like, so she settles for a Robin Hood costume.

“Please tell me I don’t have to wear tights.”

“It’s part of the costume. Get into the Halloween spirit,” I say, laughing, imagining him and his junk in some spandex.

He shakes his head and takes the costume only to make Emily happy.

After checking out, we go home to get some cleaning done before heading out to go trick-or-treating.

“How much longer until we leave?” Emily asks.

“About an hour, sweetie. Just waiting on the last load of laundry to be dry so I can fold it.”

This will be her first year having someone other than me to celebrate with, and the fact that it’s Damon makes it all that more special. All he wants to do is make her happy, even if it means wearing green spandex for a few hours.

Emily puts on her dress and twirls around, staring at herself in the mirror. And then I do the same. My costume could have been a size up to be more comfortable, but I wouldn’t dare complain in front of her.

“How the heck do they expect men to walk in these...” I hear Damon say from the other bedroom.

“Having trouble in there?”

“They are so constricting. How do women wear these?”

Emily and I go to the living room and wait for him to be finished, and when he comes out, I try to hold in my surprise. The costume is sexy, but he is right. The leggings are really tight, and you can see his junk imprint through them.

“Maybe you should take those off and just wear jeans underneath?” I say, wondering if he noticed.
