Chapter Twenty-Four
When there was a light tap at the door, Cason raised his head, and then it opened a few inches. He motioned Devon through.
Devon walked over and looked down at Lacey. “How’s she doing?”
“She’s going to be okay. She’s got a lot of people who care about her now.”
“That helps.”
“Did you find anything interesting in the files she took pictures of?”
Devon stuck his hands in his pockets and nodded. “Oh, yeah. Her mother thinks she’s above the law because she’s a judge. We’ve got more proof on her now.”
“What’s the next step?”
Devon snorted. “The two guys were going back to their superiors, and then they’ll get back to us. They did say it would be good to have extra security on her. They also said things were going to start rolling pretty quick now.”
“Fuck, I hope they get both of them.”
Devon nodded. “I’m going to get my stuff from my place and bring it down here. I’ll crash on the sofa. I can work down here just fine. I haven’t had a chance to tell you that the back door is in, and we are the only ones that have the keys right now. There’s a camera set up and a doorbell. The security will have eyes on the back now and will be the ones who allow people in. It also sets off an alarm when someone opens it.”
“Good. I’m glad they could get to it so quickly.”
Devon tipped his head at her. “What are you going to do with her right now?”
“I’m going to get her up and fed. I might see if some of the girls can come and play for a few hours to get her mind off things.”
“That’s a good idea.”
Cason watched Devon leave before smoothing the hair from her face. “Baby, let’s get you up and some food in you.”
She rubbed her nose against his chest, making him chuckle.
He maneuvered her up and then pulled her off the bed. “Go use the bathroom and meet me in the kitchen.”
“Okay.”
He pulled out his phone and called Travis.
“Hey, it’s Cason.”
“How’s she doing?”
“Good. I want to distract her today. Is there any chance a few of the girls could come over for a while?”
“Sure, I’ll set it up and call you back.”
“Thank you.”
“Hey, no problem.”
Cason had just put some soup in the microwave when she walked around the corner. He smiled. “I’ve got a surprise, baby.”
He liked the smile that crossed her face. “What is it?”
“A few of your friends are coming over later to play.”
Lacey clapped her hands. “Really?”
He chuckled. “Yes.”

“I’m so happy.”
“I thought you’d enjoy some company while a few of us guys sit around and do work.”
She went to him and hugged his waist, and set her head on his chest. “Thank you. I’m so glad I have you.”
He kissed the top of his head. “I’m glad I have you, too.”
While Cason held her, the timer on the microwave went off. “Let’s get you fed.”
They both sat down at the counter and ate. When they were done, she reached for both bowls. “I’ll wash these dishes.”
She shivered when Cason came up behind her and wrapped an arm around her as she reached for the faucet. A moan slipped out when he kissed her neck.
“I’m going to go call now.”
She nodded and then felt him move away from her. She wanted to call him back in the biggest way and tell him to make love to her, but she still felt the effects of the night before and hoped it went away quickly.
Within the hour, Nia, Kinley, and Sienna walked in with stuff in their arms.
“What did you guys bring?”
“A little of everything,” Sienna said like she was disgusted, which made Lacey grin.
Nia rolled her eyes. “Sienna’s mad because we couldn’t decide, but if you remember, you were part of the problem.”
“Why don’t you girls take it back to the bedroom. The guys will be in the office or the table.”
Lacey hugged him and then followed the women down the hallway.
