Chapter Nineteen

Lacey was slathering lotion on her face and jerked when the bathroom door burst open, and Kinley, Sienna, Nia, and Bella walked in.

“Jeez, you guys, ever hear of knocking?”

The four grinned.

“Well, sure, but it doesn’t mean we have to do it.”

She glared at Kinley.

“Come on, girl,” Nia said. “We’ve got an hour to have you ready.”

“Well, I’m already showered and have lotion on.”

Bella clapped. “Okay, I’ll do makeup. Sienna is doing your hair. Kinley and Nia are painting your fingernails and toenails.”

“I’ve never done that before.” She was excited. Just having them there for the day was great.

Bella told her. “We also have something to tell you.” Bella paused, and the girls grinned. “We’re your bridesmaids.”

Her mouth dropped open. “I get all four of you?”

Kinley grunted. “Yes, Sienna is your maid of honor. We picked with toothpicks, and we had one of the daddies do it so we couldn’t cheat.”

“This is going to be great.” She looked at all of them. They all had their hair done and a bit of makeup on. “You all look beautiful. You’re not wearing jeans, are you?”

“Oh, hell no,” Nia said. “We’ll dress with you. I hope you like the bridesmaid’s dresses.”

“You all could wear sacks, and I wouldn’t care as long as you’re a part of the wedding.”

For the next thirty minutes, she was poked and prodded but laughed so hard she cried, which made Bella sigh and redo what she’d already done.

They pulled her into the bedroom and sat her on the mattress. She watched while they all dressed, and when they were done, they stood in a line in front of her.

She laughed. They all wore the same dress but in different colors. “How did you do that?”

“One day a few months ago, we shopped together, and we all loved the dress but didn’t want to match, so we all got a different color.”

“I love them. You all look so beautiful.”

Kinley slapped her hands together and rubbed her palms back and forth. “Now, it’s your turn. We’re going to blindfold you, okay?”

Lacey laughed. “Sure.”

They pulled off the robe and then started putting things on her. It was kind of funny when they fought over who would do their next.

“Guys, how much time do we have?” she asked.

“We’ll be ready. You just relax,” Kinley told her.

They had everything on but the dress, and they all helped with that.

Lacey giggled when they all led her over to the closet door where there was a full-length mirror. Then they took the blindfold off.

She stared at herself in shock. The dress they brought looked like a wedding dress. It was floor-length and white with an overlay of delicate lace. Cap sleeves fell off the shoulder a bit, showing her neck and upper chest. It hugged her curves so nicely she didn’t cringe at everyone looking at her shape. The neckline curved down but not enough to see her strapless bra they put her in.

“You guys, how did you do this?”

“A friend of ours, you’ll meet her later, has a ton of dress-up clothes. I remember wearing this a few months ago, so I called her and had someone bring it right over.”

Lacey twirled around. “Kinley, this is perfect.”

Bella started scowling. “Don’t you dare cry. I do not want to redo your makeup again.”

Lacey nodded, smiled, and blinked quickly to keep the tears away. “I’m just so…”

Nia wrapped an arm around her waist. “We know. But that’s what friends are for.”
