Chapter Fifteen
Lacey dried the last plate and stuck it in the cupboard. She felt so proud of herself that she was learning to keep the house so she could take care of Cason.
Cason pulled her into his arms. “Why don’t you go and take a bath. The guys will be here shortly. Come to me when you’re finished. Wear the nightgown I left on the bed.”
She went up on her tiptoes and pressed a kiss to his mouth. “I’ll be back soon.”
“Take your time, baby.”
She took a long bath and even washed and dried her hair, wanting to look pretty for Cason. After she pulled on panties and the nightgown, she glanced at herself in the bathroom mirror.
“Oh, good God.” The white fabric was so thin she could see her nipples plain as day. She couldn’t walk into a meeting like that. She pulled on Cason’s robe and then grinned at herself in the mirror. It was like playing dress-up. The sleeves were several inches longer than she needed and were impossible to fold up.
She decided she’d keep the belt tight, and it would make sure she was covered.
A shiver ran up her spine when she heard the different male voices. They were all so deep and rough that it kind of scared her, but knowing Cason was in the office made her relax. He wouldn’t let those men hurt her.
She stood in the doorway until Cason looked up from his desk. The two other men had their backs to her, but their sizes were very intimidating, and she didn’t want to go past them until Cason told her to.
All three men zeroed in on her at the same time. Her eyes went straight to Cason, and she relaxed when he smiled and held out a hand.
“Come here, honey. I’d like you to meet Brett and Cooper.”
He pulled her into his lap.
“Cooper is the bigger one.”
Her eyes went back and forth and whispered. “I can’t tell. They are both ginormous.”
She could feel a blush mask her face when they all laughed. She tucked her head against Cason’s chest.
“Cooper is the one with the darker hair.”
She peeked at them. “It’s nice to meet you,” she whispered, but she knew they heard her when they both smiled.
“Did you tell them about me being nice?”
Cason coughed. “No, I thought if they saw you, it would help ease any concerns they had that you would hurt them.”
She looked at the men. “He’s right. I don’t hurt people. Once you get to know me, you’ll see that I’m nice.”
“We trust you,” Brett said.
“It’s just that Cason told me you’re both suspicious bastards. But he didn’t say it to be mean. When he talked about you, I could tell he likes you both.”
Cooper covered his mouth with his hand, and Brett’s mouth kept twitching.
“They believe me, don’t they?”
Cason clutched hair on the back of her head and turned her to face him. “Yes, they believe you. Stop worrying, all right?”
She relaxed against him and nodded.
“Rest here while we finish.”
“Okay.”
