“You won’t be happy, baby. You’re the type of person who thrives on affection from others and taking care of people. You’ll be taking care of me, and I’ll give you all the affection you can handle. If you insist, you can have your own bedroom.”
Everything he was saying was true, and she’d admit, at least to herself, she wasn’t looking forward to living alone. God, the thought of being in bed beside him made saliva pool in her mouth and her stomach tighten in need.
She exhaled. “Okay.”
“You’ll move in with me?”
“Yes.”
He pulled her into his arms. “You won’t regret it, baby.”
“I know I won’t.”
“Let’s go eat. It sounds like we’re going to have a long weekend.”
“Okay.”
They stopped at a restaurant on their way back to her place.
The place was drab, and the waitress had no personality. Kinley didn’t like the atmosphere, and the food wasn’t great, but at least they crossed another one off their list that seemed to go on and on.
Back in the car, he looked over at her. “I’m grading it a two out of five. The only thing going for it was clean.”
She grinned. “I think so, too. If I never eat there again, I won’t be sad.”
“I agree. I say we give the four-star restaurants one more chance and go to the five stars ones we love.”
“That might take a while. I love to cook, so we won’t be eating out a lot.”
“Oh, thank God. I can do the basics.”
She grinned. “I’ll feed you.”
He walked her to her door and cupped the back of her neck. “I want you to come to work tomorrow in sweats and bring your other clothes.”
“Why?”
“Because I’m going to teach you some self-defense, so if men try to touch you as Foster did, you can lay them flat.”
She giggled. “I’d like that.”
He grinned. “I thought you might. I also want you to pack a bag of clothes for now.”
“Why?”
“Because you’ll be moving in with me tomorrow, remember?”
“Oh.”
“Yeah.” He bent and pressed his lips to hers, and within seconds, they were clinging to each other, trying to get closer.
He ripped his mouth from hers. “Jesus, baby. If I don’t have you soon, I’m going to go stark raving mad.”
She stared up at him in awe. “I feel the same way.”
“Good. Now go in and get some sleep.”
“I will. Good night.”
“Good night, baby. Dream of me.”
“I always do.”
