“Okay. Get some rest, young lady.”
“I will.”
The doctor looked over his glasses at her. “Oh, and don’t tell your mother I was here. She’ll only call and yell at me.”
Bella smiled. “I won’t, I promise.”
Caleb stopped at the kitchen and opened the refrigerator.
“I’m going to give you one of the yogurts. Could you see if anything were added?”
“Sure.” The doctor turned to Caleb at the elevator. “Give her a lot of fluids. It will help rinse her system out.”
“Anything else?”
“Yeah, keep that woman away from Bella and nail her ass to the wall.”
Caleb was a bit shocked by the level of fury in the doctor’s tone, but he nodded. “Already on that.”
“Good.”
The elevator door closed, and he went to check on Bella. She had turned on her side and was asleep. He pulled the covers up over her shoulders and stared down at her.
She had become a big part of his heart in the short time he’d been there, and she’d also shown signs of being a little. He’d always been envious of the friends he knew that had them, although he’d never tell them that. He was just convinced he’d never find one.
God couldn’t have given him a better person to love. She smoothed out his edges, and he protected her from the world. Damn, he couldn’t wait to start a life with her. They had some things to figure out, but they could deal with anything.
He sighed and went to get his blanket and pillow. Another night on the floor. It sucked, but he didn’t trust Drusilla to stay away from her, and he wanted to be close in case Bella needed him.
