Chapter Six

Sienna looked around as Kane pulled into underground parking under a very tall building. “What is this place?”

“My partners and I own it. We have our security business on the first three floors, and then apartments for us. One of my partners is looking for a house with his little, so we’ll have an open one soon. Each floor is one condo.”

Holy shit. She hadn’t realized he was rich. Instead of making her feel good, it made her feel more inadequate. “The building’s huge.”

He nodded as he pulled into a parking spot by the elevator. “That’s why most of us are okay with living here. At least until we find the woman we want to settle down with. Stay. I’ll come around and get you.”

She nodded and watched as he walked around the car to open her door. She grabbed the hand he held out. He took her backpack from her and wrapped an arm around her waist.

“You looked wiped out. It’s been a long day for you, hasn’t it?”

She nodded and tried to stifle her yawn.

“We’ll get you showered and into bed. How does that sound?”

“Heavenly,” she said and smiled.

The elevator doors slid open. Her heart dropped, and she tightened her grip on Kane when she caught her first sight of the man. He was even taller than Kane, with black hair and eyes that seemed to look right through her.

“Draven, meet Sienna. Baby, this is Draven. He’s another partner and lives in the building.”

Draven nodded as his eyes scanned her from head to toe.

Sienna gritted her teeth at his insulting look. She had grown up in a harsh environment and had to be mean and not show fear. Her eyes narrowed on him when his eyes focused on hers. She saw his mouth twitch, but otherwise, his face was still as stone.

“It’s nice to meet you,” she said but in a belligerent tone. Draven looked surprised, and Kane coughed to hide his chuckle.

Draven’s eyes narrowed on her, making a shiver of alarm race up her spine. Instead of bowing down to her fear, she fought it and raised her chin.

“You’ve got a handful, man.”

Kane chuckled. “Yes, but I think she’ll be worth it.”

Draven’s eyebrows rose. “This sounds serious.”

“Her situation is. We’ll talk more later. I’m going to need some help with her situation.”

“Do you want me to come up now?”

“No, she’s tired, and I need to get her into bed. Can you be in my office in the morning?”

“Sure.” He took one more good look at her. “I’ll be seeing you later, tiger,” he said and smirked.

Kane maneuvered her into the elevator and pushed a button. “Do you want to tell me what that was about?”

She shrugged. “I don’t know. He rubbed me the wrong way, and I’ve just been taught never to back down.”

“Draven’s a good guy. He might look like Bigfoot, but he’s gentle.”

She snorted and relaxed.

He chuckled and pulled her off the elevator into a foyer of his condo. The place was classy but very masculine, with black leather furniture and white walls. No knick-knacks were lying around or pictures on the walls.

Kane tugged her down a hallway until they came to an end. He opened the door, and the first thing she saw was a huge bed.

“Is this your bedroom?” she asked.

He nodded and kept moving her to the bathroom door. He released her to start the shower.

“I know you’d probably want a bath, but you look ready to collapse. So how about a quick shower?”

“Can’t I go to another bathroom?”

“I don’t have any supplies in the other one. Babe, nothing’s going to happen. Okay? I will keep my word. I can’t get you to trust me if I go back on it. I’ll go and let you get in the shower.”

“Okay.”

He left, and she hurriedly stripped and then stepped into the most decadent shower she’d ever seen. First, she used the shampoo that fortunately had conditioner in it and then scrubbed her body.

She turned off the water and squeezed as much water out as she could. She probably shouldn’t have washed her hair, but she wanted to be clean from head to toe, and that was something that didn’t happen in her world.

The apartment she’d shared with her mother had one tiny bathroom with only a shower, and it was stained from so many years of use. No matter how much she’d scrubbed, it never came clean.

She opened the frosted glass door and grabbed the towel that hung there. Then she dried her body and wrapped the towel around her midsection before stepping out. The first thing she noticed was the door was still closed, but then a shirt and her backpack were sitting on the counter.
