Chapter Nine

A few days later, she was sitting on her bed and putting on her shoes when Kane called her from the living room.

“Sienna.”

“I’m coming,” she yelled. “Although I don’t really want to,” she muttered to herself.

Kane had talked about her meeting Nia for close to two weeks. This was the first time they were available.

He grinned when he saw her.

She was in her favorite skirt, and she knew it was one Kane favored as well. She topped it with a light-green top and white sandals. “Does this look okay?” she asked and then twirled.

“Baby, you look beautiful.

She smiled. He always made her feel good about herself. He looked handsome in a pair of dark-blue jeans and a black button-down shirt.

“You look hot,” she commented and then blushed.

He chuckled. “I’m glad you think so. Ready?”

“We really don’t have to go tonight. I mean, you probably have work to do, and I need to clean the … bathroom.”

He snorted. “Baby, stop being nervous. You’re going to get along with Nia. I promise. Trust me.”

She sighed. He wasn’t going to let her stay home, so she would make the best of it and hope the girl was nice.

They took the elevator up one floor and stepped into a foyer. The layout was pretty much the same, but the colors were different.

Sienna’s attention caught on the woman standing slightly behind Travis.

“Sienna, I’d like you to meet Nia. She’s Travis’s little,” Kane told her.

The girls stared at each other for a long moment.

“Hi,” Nia said.

Sienna swallowed. “Hi. It’s nice to meet you,” she said in a monotone.

Kane and Travis rolled their eyes.

“How about you show her your playroom, Nia, while we talk and finish making the dinner?” Travis said.

Nia nodded. “Follow me.”

Sienna glanced at Kane and relaxed when she saw his smile. She turned and followed the woman down a hallway much like Kane’s

Her eyes widened at the array of toys and books. “Wow. This is like Riley’s room.”

Nia snorted. “No, I think that girl has twice what I do. The girl is a doll hog.”

Sienna looked at Nia and then burst into laughter. “Oh, my God, you are so right.”

“I like your necklace,” Nia said. “I have one, too.”

Sienna touched the piece of jewelry that Kane had given her and told her always to keep it on. It was a bit different than Nia’s and just as beautiful.

“I think yours is pretty, too.”

That was all it took to break the ice. The girls sat around on the floor, talking, and playing with the dollhouse.

“So, how long have you and Kane been together?”

“Oh, about two weeks. We’re not boyfriend or girlfriend yet.”

“Do you want to be?”

“Yes, but I’m scared. I’ve never had a boyfriend. How about you guys?”

“It’s going on the seventh month.”

Sienna’s eyes widened. “Wow, I would have thought longer. You two seem to be pretty close.

Nia snorted. “We are now, but we had a rough spell.”

“Really? What happened.”

“Travis’s secretary wanted him bad. She hated me on sight. I tried not to let it bother me, but then she contacted my brother, who was trying to hurt me. She got him into our apartment. Thankfully, Travis had a couple of panic rooms.”

“Yeah, Kane does, too. He said every one of the apartments do. What happened to your brother and her?”

“She was arrested, and I shot him.”
