There was a long moment of silence while Easton digested that news.

“Are you sure it wasn’t Sabrina that Cannel came into contact with?” Easton wondered. “I mean, Sabrina’s look is distinct. And, at the time, Sabrina would’ve been a lot younger than she is now. She’s only twenty-four, correct?”

I thought about that for a few seconds before nodding. “Yes, that’s correct.”

“Well, then.” Easton shrugged. “Maybe look into that for Cannel. Give her peace of mind.”

I thought about that for a whole half a second and then decided against it.

I didn’t want to know.

“No.”

He scoffed. “You can’t just sit here and follow the poor girl around, Trink.”

I got to my bike where I’d parked it down the road from her house.

When I mounted it, it was to see her walking up the length of her front walk—which I noticed needed mowed two weeks ago.

I waited until she was all the way inside and the door was closing before I started the bike up.

Which might’ve been a mistake because the moment it started up, the door that was closing froze with a crack in it, making me realize my mistake.

She’d heard me.

“Ten bucks says she knows you’re following her,” Easton teased.

I looked over at him. “Do you want a ride back?”

Easton climbed on, but instead of getting on with his front to my back, he turned so that my back was to his, and the small, padded seat that offered a small bit of support was in his crotch.

I took a U-turn and headed back down the block.

Not glancing back toward the house that still didn’t have the door closed all the way.

CHAPTER 14

No matter what, always try to help people. Instead of ‘fuck off’ try ‘how may I help you fuck off?’

-Price to Shine

PRICE

The breaking point of my ignorance stage came a month and a half after we arrived back from the beach.

I’m not sure what caused me to go inside.

Maybe it was the way that she walked, scratching her arms the entire way she went.

Maybe it was the way that she held herself.

Maybe it was a whole bunch of things.

Whatever the fuckin’ reason, it was fate.

Because two days ago, I’d given up stalking her.

It’d been hard.

I’d literally almost broken down and gone to her house multiple times throughout the day.

Luckily, we’d had a house fire in a suburb in Intercourse that we needed to start cleaning up.

That’d occupied nearly my whole day yesterday, and half my day today.

I’d been on a lunch break across the road from the clinic when I’d seen that gorgeous form making her way down the road.

Today, she was wearing a pair of leggings that had some gray underneath the ass, making her butt look almost obscene.

And I’d done nothing but stare at said ass all the way into the clinic.

I’d lasted a whole two minutes outside at my table when I couldn’t take it anymore and walked inside, abandoning my food and leaving it to whomever cleaned up after the patrons.

I was just stepping inside when I heard her voice.

“…crazy itchy, but it’s just getting worse and worse to the point where I needed to come see someone about it.” I heard her voice.

That was when my eyes adjusted and I could see her arms that she was holding out.

I didn’t mean to move forward.

Honestly, all I meant to do was back out the door once I knew that what she was there for wasn’t life-threatening.

But before I could back out of the door, someone pushed through behind me, and a little kid started screaming, drawing everyone’s attention within half a mile.

Oh, and every single person in the waiting room was now looking at me.

Or at me, that was standing next to the screaming kid.

Sabrina’s eyes went as big as saucers as she stared at me and not the kid.

Her mouth opened and closed a few times before she croaked, “Price?”

I instantly felt like utter shit.

Especially when her eyes welled with tears, and her hands clenched into fists at her sides, causing her fingers to turn white and bloodless.

Her eyes stayed on me while I made a decision.

One that would come with consequences.

One that would mean that I would no longer be able to go around my sister anymore when Sabrina was around. Or… ever.

Which broke my heart a little bit.

But the last few weeks had been fucking hell.

I’d done the right thing.

So why did it feel so freakin’ wrong?

Why did the way she was looking at me wrap around my heart and tear it to shreds?

When I marched toward her, my eyes automatically went to her arms.

They had huge, massive welts that were lining up and down the length of her arm, disappearing underneath her t-shirt.

Her cheeks were flushed, and her eyes were red and puffy.

Whether that was from the cat or because she’d seen me, I didn’t know.
