Had I driven our mate away?
“What did I do wrong, Jay?”
The other Omega stood with me as I stared after the retreating car. “Nothing, Brad. You forget how weird this must be to a human, especially one who’s been abused like Nevaeh. Wait until you have to tell her you guys are wolf shifters. That one will go down like a lead balloon.”
Jay walked off and the other men came running at me.
“What happened?” the Alphas demanded.
“I just…” I swallowed hard around the lump in my throat. “I told her about the three of us and she lost it. Screamed at me and ran away. I didn’t even get to tell her about… anything, really.”
Grayson grimaced. “Unfortunately, it sounds like Nevaeh’s background will dictate her actions.”
He sniffed the air. “Do you smell that?”
Aaron and I turned our heads towards the air and there it was, faint, but definitely there.
“Bears.”
“At least one. Dex!”
Dexter came back to the door and Grayson said, “There’s a bear shifter around. We’re going after our mate. You keep yours safe.”
Grayson began to strip and we joined him in dropping our clothes.
“Okay, but be careful. The closer you get to town, the more dangerous it is for you with hunters around.”
We nodded and the shift ripped through the three of us.
My eyes transitioned to ones with great night vision, and the thrill of the hunt curled up my back.
Grayson put his head back and howled to the sky. We took off after the woman meant to complete us.
Chapter 5.
Nevaeh.
Can you bloody believe it? They expect me to…
I couldn’t even finish the thought! They expected me to….
I burst out laughing, in a strangely hysterical way.
How was it possible that today had gone so incredibly wrong? Claire… dating not one, but three men at once.
And her next-door neighbours expecting me to do the same thing.
“Over my dead body.”
I was too hot in the car and rolled the window down to let in some fresh, night air.
The strangest sounds met my ears.
Growling.
I tried to keep my eyes on the dark road, but my gaze darted towards the window to see if I could catch a glimpse of what was making that noise.
A bear?
