I nodded and began to pace the large living room. She was right, but it wasn’t as easy as I’d thought to share her.
Growls were surfacing in my chest as well, and an anger towards my Alpha was rising.
The door opened and Dexter walked in, stopping short at seeing us in his living room.
Dexter and his pack were very protective of Claire, and we approached her with caution everywhere she went. On the street, in the restaurants in town.
We certainly never entered their home.
“What’s going on, guys?” Dexter asked, his tone strangely calm.
Claire bounced over to him and grabbed him in a huge hug. “Nevaeh is their mate! Look!”
She pulled Dex a little closer to Grayson, who growled and bared his teeth.
I fell back, expecting Dexter to lash out. Two Alphas in any pack could be dangerous, which was the main reason we were forced into our own families. To stop as much in-fighting as possible.
But instead, Dexter began to laugh. “And you thought I was crazy for wanting to protect Claire! Karma’s a bitch, Grayson.”
Dexter kept chuckling, moving to the kitchen and opening the refrigerator door.
I was stunned.
He was suddenly all calm? What about us?
“What do we do, Dex? When will she come around?”
Dexter grabbed some food from the fridge and began making a platter. Fruit, sliced meats and chocolate.
“Claire was knocked out for over an hour when I touched her, about ten minutes with Taylor and just kinda fell against Jay. So, get comfortable, guys. She’s not coming around any time soon.”
He brought the platter over and kissed his mate. “Eat up, beautiful. You need it.”
I looked at Claire again. Her glowing cheeks, the food her mate was shoving at her…that could only mean one thing.
“You’re pregnant?”
Claire grinned and Dexter scooped her up and put her in his lap, sitting on the couch with her.
“Yes.”
Grayson began to move closer and slowly sat down on the other end of the couch with Nevaeh, who hadn’t stirred and whose head lay on Grayson’s chest.
“Congratulations,” Grayson managed to get out, and I could see the calm Alpha in him coming back slowly.
“It will probably help if you put her down, Gray.” Dexter turned his head and called out, “Jay, you here?”
A door opened and Jay came out, rubbing his eyes like he’d been working too hard at a computer screen.
“You called? Oh, hey, guys. Didn’t know you were here. Sorry.”
“It looks like Claire’s nurse friend is their mate. Can Gray put her down on your bed?”
Jay’s gaze bounced around the room, finally coming to rest on Nevaeh. “Wow. What are the odds?”
Grayson growled a little again, and this time I wanted to roll my eyes. He had to know, of all the guys in the pack, these were not the ones who would never hurt our mate.
“Probably a good idea, Grayson,” I chimed in, not sure how this was going to play out. “Or we could take her home now?”
